We the Editors, are proud to dedicate the 1978 Lancer to Mr. Gary Hanna. Mr. Hanna has been a teacher in Canby High School for 18 years, and during that time has taught junior high math, geography, civics, and drivers' education. Throughout these courses, he has tried to instill in all of us a sense of responsibility toward our world and each other. He's never too busy to stop and talk, or to have a little fun, and if we have a problem, he can usually offer some good advice. Thank you, Mr. Hanna, for being a special help as we go on our way to FINDING OURSELVES. Torri and Pam

THE ART OF AWARENESS The art of awareness is the art of learning how to awaken to the eternal miracle of life with its limit- less possibilities. It is searching for beauty everywhere, in a flower, a mountain, a machine, a sonnet and a symphony. It is developing the deep sensitivity through which we may suffer and know tragedy ... but through which we will also experience the grandeur of hu- man life. It is identifying yourself with the hopes, dreams, fears and longings of others. It is learning to inter- pret their thoughts, feelings and moods. It is keeping mentally alert to all that goes on around you; it is being curious, observant, imagina- tive that you may build an ever increasing fund of knowledge of the universe. It is striving to stretch the range of eye and ear; it is taking time to look and listen and comprehend. It is through a growing awareness that you stock and enrich your memory — and as a great philosopher has said: A man thinks with his memory.11 Wilferd A. Peterson
