LANCER LOYALTY The 17th annual Homecoming festivities started Thursday, October 11, 195 0 with a spirit of enthusiasm as old C.H.S. cheered at the afternoon pep fest. The yells were led by the Somber cheerleaders. Mr. Duane Anderson gave a stimulating cep talk. The program opened with the audience singing the school hymn. Mr. Ornis Anderson, the aomecoming chairman, gave his appreciation to everyone for making this homecoming possible. To the strains of the oompus Huldigungsmarsch played by the band, wuecn Shirley Anderson, and ner attendants, Sharon Ferguson, Doris ..ens, LuAnn Diese, «riene Tibbits, Rosalie Kcch, and Marcia Sberle marched up the aisle each to take their respective places on and around the throne. Roger Maertens and Russell Hanson escorted the Queen and her attendants up the .'tens, osalyn Eischens, 1955 Homecoming Queen, introduced Queen Shirley to the audian-e, Sonlon Hillman, crown bearer, presented the crown to Rosalyn; she then crowned Shirley Homecoming ..ueen of 1956. Lonri Kay Mueller presented the Queen 'with a bouquet of red roses, lr. Queen Shirley's response, she thanked the student body for giving her the honor of being quee and wished the boys the best of luck in the game. Ervin Mikkelson, an alumnus of Canb.v .ish school and assistant coach at Ortonville, was the Homecoming speaker. The program closed with the student body singing Hail to the Queen . The parade began at 3:00 p.m.; the Boy Scouts and the band leading it. -ve had such a beautiful afternoon, that the Queen and her atendants didn't have to wear furs in the parade. The slogan for the day was Lancer Loyalty . The prize winning floats this year were the nineth grade winning first prize, eight second, and the F.F.A. placing third. The Lancers defeated the Ortonville Trojans 37-0. During the half the band, under the direction of Mr. Anderson, put on a show entitled. Life in Our School. At the conclusion of the show, the band formed a heart in salute to Queen Shirley, as the Queen's Float, followed oy the prize winning floats went around the football field. Homecoming events were climaxed by a dance for the alumni, the Senior High, and the visit- ing Trojans. The dance was held in the new gym, and the music was nrnvided by :oody Howard and his band. The dance ended a perfect day which will be remembered by all of us for year, to 27
