The Lancers defeated the Ortonville Trojans 37-0. During the half the band, under the direction of Mr. Anderson, put on a show entitled. Life in Our School. Would you give him up, or would you marry him knowing beyond a shad- ow of doubt that he loved you only? This is the situation which con- fronts Mignonette , the leading character in the play. It turned out that Mignonette gave up her love for Jonathan Mills to the girl he had promised to marry. Mignonette died of heartbreak the next spring. Seventy-five years later Rose Mills, the grand-daughter of Jonathan Mills, has the same problem. Her grandfather refuses his consent to let Justin Halliday marry Rose because of a family grudge and his un- fortunate love affair. Rose wins her grandfather's consent when he reads a diary where Mignonette herself explains why she could never marry him. Jonathan gives his blessing to Rose and Justin before the tragedy of his life was relived. There-was a rainbow and the sun shone down upon them. This sun will never set for Justin and Rose. 35 Back Row: L. Thronson, D. Anderson, «J. Thomsen, S. Berge, R. Bultnick, C. Bruflat. Row 1±: S. Anderson, L. Voight, D. Dunn, R. Zimmerman, K. It was a very well played opening game for the inexperienced Lancers. Redwood pulled the game out in the last quarter on a sustained march. The Granite Falls Kilowatts nudged the Lancers 13-12. It was a very exciting game with Granite scoring the winning touchdown on a forty yard run from scrimmage. Blankenfeld stood out in defense. The third game of the season ended in a 13-7 defeat at the hands of Clarkfield. With the Lancers holding Glenn Haughie to comparitively small yardage, it was two passes which hurt the Lancers. Canby's attack was well divided among Blankenfeld, Meade, Grengs, Plinski, and Chap- man. The first victory was scored over Dawson by a count of lli-7. A last quarter drive turned a tie into victory as Ron Meade converted on each of his extra point tries. The Lancers capped their Homecoming ceremonies by trouncing Ortonville 37-0. With a start- ing lineup of nearly all seniors, Canby rolled up a big margin after Plinski s touchdown on the opening kickoff. Reserves played much of the game. Canby spoiled Appleton a festivities by winning 16-6 after being down 6-2 at halftime. After Chapman nailed an Appleton back in the end zone, Canby scored its first TD on a ten yard pass. A later TD added insurance points as Ron Meade converted twice. With three consecutive victories. Canby traveled to Pipestone and lost 28-6. The Lancers scored on a long deflected pass to Blankenfeld. They played without Bob Tesch who injured his ankle in the Appelton game. Pipestone was one of the top ten randed teams in Minnesota. Madison stopped Canby's bid for a b-2 conference record by defeating the Lancers lb-O. Having a hard time moving the ball, and also having a touchdown called back, they just couldn't break into the scoring column. The final game of the season ended in a 20-19 loss to Marshall. After Canby led 12-7 at halftime, Marshall scored twice in the second half. Aalen scored Marshall's winning touchdown. Meade, Blankenfeld, and Grengs gained well for Canby. 47 Back Row: J. Parker, C. It was a very well played game because this year's squad was inexperienced at that time. Scoring was well dis- tributed. Clarkfield handed the Lancers their first loss 51-1 8 on well balanced scoring by Haughie, Trandahl, and Lee. A jump shot from the left hand comer by Ron Meade gave Canby a one point 3l -33 decision over the Appelton Aces. Dawson started a five game closing streak for Canby by winning a 1 5-U3 game on last quarter free throws. Blue Earth and Sherburn came to Canby to take two games 61-1 5 and 61 -55 respectively. Blue Earth's tremendous height and Sherburn's speed gave the southern Minnesota teams two wins. Craigmile and Meade were the high scorers. Dawson won a return game 50-1 8. It was nearly identical to the first one. Ortonville squeeked out a 57-55 win after the Lancers led most of the way. It was a tough loss for Canby, but this ended their slump. The next weekend the Lancers played two very good games in defeating Appelton 57-32 and Madi- son 69-1 7. Appelen, Meade, Blankenfeld, and Craigmile were the high men. Canby traveled to Hendricks and lost 1 8-33 in a game in which we were favored. A cold second half stopped Canby. Tyler came to Canby with a 12-0 record and lost its first game to Canby 58-56. Mike Plinski kept Canby's margin of victory ahead with 21 points. With Craigmile and Plinski each scoring 21 , Canby defeated the Clarkfield Cardnials 7l -66. It was an extremely hot shooting game for both teams. Canby lost two games to Marshall, by scores of 1 7-1 6 and 60-55. A shot by Stearns with only seconds remaining won the first game for Marshall. Madison was defeated by the Lancers for a second time this season; the score was 59-56. Two controlled jump balls in the last minute won the game for Canby. Minneota fell before the Lancers 61 -5l. Ron Meade's long jump shots plus other balanced scoring won the game even though Sanders had 27 for Minneota. Even though Canby stayed nearly even with Granite until two minutes to play. Granite Falls defeated the Lancers 68-55- Craigmile and Meade were high point men. The regular season ended with an eight win, ten loss record. The high scorers were Meade, Blankenfeld, Appelen, Craigmile, Plinski, and Clement. 50 RON MEADS SCN CRAIGMILE DICK BLANKENFELD Junior Sophomore Senior CLYDE CLEMEnt Senior MIKE SNIEGOWSKI Junior RUSS HANSEN Senior 52 ROGER EISCHENS JOHN APFELEN Sophomore Junior MIKE PLINSKI ROGER MAERTENS MIKE CHAPMAN Junior Senior Senior 53 Back Row: L.
