He was no longer slim; he had passed the 200 pound mark during his early thirties and had left it far behind........Hut he carried himself with the self assurance of a successful gentleman who was oroud of his wife, proud of his family, and proud of his business accomplishments........Dad was an efficiency Expert and at home he practiced the same efficiency routine. His idea was based upon the philosophy that a moment wasted is a moment lost...........Whenever Dad returned from a +r-p he would whistle the family assembly call as he turned in at the gate....The call was important, make no mistake about that....It meant drop everything and anything nd come a running. Often times when there was a visitor oresert, Dad would check with a stop watch to prove to the visitor how efficient his family could be...,Dad organized the Family Council which met when the need arose and since it was divided into committees, it did an unuaual .job of purchasing and work supervision..................Skinring grades in school was a part of Dad!s educational 1an for us. He would make periodic visits to the school-frightening the teachers into skinring us as he had planned....His home education was really something we will never forget. Once he drew lines to divide a nuge piece of paper into a million squares----.just to show us what a million looked like...... Ann's first date was a date to remember. It was with Joe Scales, a high school cheerleader with a very modem manner....He drove up for this first date in a Model T (with writing on it)....Vie could hear the car several blocks before it actually hove into si ght, because it was equipped with an exhaust whistle that was allowed to function as a matter of routine.............After Dad had given in and let Ann have dates, it made it much easier for the rest of the girls and we began to lead a normal life. Of course, Dad still thought that no self-respect- ing girl would go out on a date unless properly chaperoned. If he couldn't go he always saw to it that one of the older boys would act in has place........Now we know that Dad was merely hurrying our growing up process; He w£s eager that we learn to handle responsibilities. None of us realized that Dad had a bad heart; Dr. Burton knew it. Mother knew it, and most important of all, Dad him- self knew it............We had never supposed that Dad had any intention of dying until he was good and ready to die. But, for once, his efficiency plan had run into a problem over which he had no control............We were prepared for life; all 12 of us had experienced a childhood full of fun and had known tbe leadership of a loving father.......Maybe it wasn't cheaper to raise them by the dozen; but it was surely a lot of fun. Father............ Mother............ Anne.............. Lillian........... Ernestine......... Martha............ Frank............. Dan............... Fred.............. Bill.............. Jackie............ Lariy............. Joe Scales......, Miss Brill...... Miss Fitzgerald, Dr. Burton........ ......Jon Salhus .Joyce Mickelson ....Carol Hanson ......Joan Gorder ...Sonja Thorpe ,Elizabeth Bockes ,..Leonard Jensen ,...Jim Cleveland ,Bob Christianson ........Bob Olson ,....Sig Armitage ......Jim Dunphy ......Paul Gubrud ..Jackie Qualley ..Janice Kragness ,Dick DeBettignes Z9 Christa Graner, Barbara Schuver, Beverly Langdon, Sandra Enga, Queen Fatty Craigmile, Marie Rem, Carol Ufkin, Bonnie Ekem, Allan Thovson. ?he lb'th annual Ilomecomin: at Canby High School, October 1, 19Ju, began at 2:1___with the coronating of the queen in the nev auditorium.
