Jeff Adams was an architect by day and general cleaner-upper for his orphaned brothers and sisters in the evening. Into their midst came Peggy Winkel, whom Jeff mistook for tne new maid. Peggy, tired of selling hosiery and fond of children, agrees to help out.' Lenoro Hudson, who had just Inherited a million dollars, wanted Jeff to build her new house and she hoped he would share it with her. Hy, with her football plays and a bowl of poison ivy, spoiled these plans. Wes, who always had that Woman Look for someone, bought a motor-scooter to take Eve to tne dance. Peggy left and Jeff realized what sne meant to him and got her back. Granite Falls For the second game of the Lan- cer season Canby played Granite Falls on Canby1s new football grid- iron. Canby was a little scorched by Granite when they won 20 to 0. Clarkfield The third football game of 48 was played on September 24 with Clarkfield, Canby was still in that rut from the two preceding games and couldn't get out of it. The final quarter ended with a 3core of 2 for Clarkfield, 0 for Canby. Dawson October 1 saw Dawson at Canby for Canby's third game at home on the new field. Dawson was ahead almost all of the game and when the gun went off it found Dawson ahead 39 to 16. Ortonville Our Homecoming game on October 8 found the Ortonville Trojans invad- ing Lancer territory. In the last two minutes of play Canby inter- cepted a Trojan pass and won its first victory this season—24 to 19 Madison Madison playoa their Homecoming game here on October 15. The game ended in a 13 to 6 victory for the Lancers. Hutchinson October 29 saw Canby making the long trip to Hutchinson only to be defeated In the third quarter. The final score was Hutchinson 19 to Canby's 7. Olivia The last game of the Lancer seas- on was at Canby with Olivia. It was a cold night for Olivia but a cold- er one still for Canby when the game ended. Canby was 2 yd3. from another touchdown. Its next appearance was at the Christmas Vocal Concert, December 15. The theme was set around the meaning of Christmas, and between numbers a short play was enactod. lumbers on the- prorra n included both sacred and secular, ending fith Mr. Carlson s arran '-ment of White Christmas. The Spring Concert was April 24, and the District Music Contest at Tracy was held the 26 and 27 of April. TRIPLE TRIO AND 30YS QUARTET The CHS Triple Trio made its first appearance at the Christmas Vocal Concert. They sang Carol of the Bells and Santa Claus ;s Coming To Town . They hav also appeared at the Rotary Club Christmas Dinner Party, the George Grim lecture, and the PTA meeting. The Boys Quartet is the newest vocal musical organ- isation, organised after Christmas. Both the Triple Trio and the Boys Quartet appeared at the District Music Contest. Cech, J. Monson PEP BAND The pep band played at all the hone basketball games. They entertained during the halves with marches and novelty numbers. SWING BANT) tie have our own swing band this year, organized shortly after Christmas. The Swing Band made its first appearance at the Girl Scout Play in April. Among our favorite selections have been Bugle Call Rag, Among My Souvenirs, and Now is the Hour. SMALL INSTRUMENTAL GROUPS The CHS horn quartet made its first appearance at the George Grim lecture. They played two numbers, 0 light of Life by Bortni- ansky and Entr1 Acte by Schubert. This group performed at the District Music Contest as well as other instrumental soloists and groups such as the Clarinet uartet, one the Cornet Trio. BAND The Canby High School Band made its first appearances of the 1943-49 season at all the hone football manes. This series of appearances was climaxed by the Homecoming game and the Home- coming parade. The first concert was December 8. Among the selections were Dancing Tambourine, Tshaikowsky's Pathetique Symphony—and stout Hearted lien by Romberg. Tickets were sold at this concert and the proceeds went to the newly organized band uniform fund. The spring concert was March 29th.
