CLASS HISTORY The Class of 47 met for the first time in Miss Billington's first grade, with 32 mem- bers Everett Bushman was the director of the Rhythm Band Our class grew in the second grade, so in the third grade it was split into two sections. Jack Kragness came from Por- ter with fistfuls of paper money to intrigue the girls with In the sixth grade six peo- ple begem studying band lessons under Mr Williamson. Our class was well represented in all of the grade operettas In the seventh grade we moved to the Junior Assembly, end the confusion of different teachers and periods Miss Probstfield was the Junior High Principal In the seventh grade, fourteen of our class entered B band, and many more in the 8th grade Beverly Aure and Chuck Rhea were the receivers of the American Legion 8th grade award Carol Lundring was absent this year, attending school in Colorado During this year a scrap drive was held, with students bringing in huge quantities of everything from bed- springs to tin cans The P.T A sponsored a successful fun-fest for all the grades An avalanch of new faces invaded our class in our Freshman year Merlin Cole and Marge Kaok were oo-editors of the Jr Hi Jinx For the first time our grade made a Homecoming float. Chuck Rhea was president of our grade that year In our 10th year we advanced to the second story and Miss Towey. Beverly Aure was .looted class president We used a 'horse and buggy'theme for our float Doreen Bockes was the new Sophomore cheerleader A Christmas Carnival was held this year, sponsored by the Student Council In our Junior year our class play, The Sunshine Twins, under the capable direction of Miss Moen, was very successful In the spring the Juniors were hosts to the Seniors at the annual Prom and Banquet with the theme being Rolling Down to Rio. The Red Jackets furnished the rtusio for the Prom During this year, the vocal groups of C H S walked off with top honors at the regional and state contests The top performers, the jftixed chorus received an A at the district and an A at the state Shirley Smith was president through- out our Junior year A successful football season began in our Senior year with the defeat of Clarkfield. Mavis Mohn was reigning queen at the Homecoming events, crowned by president Lloyd Nelson This year our football team captured top honors with the title of Chmpion of the Little Sioux District School dances were obtained this year, and proved to be a huge success The Swing Band played at several of these The Basketball team also took-honors at the District, winning over Marshall and Lynd. Herb Mikkelson and Chuck Rhea made the All-Dis- trict team and Herb topped the District record with 1011 points in his high school career The Music Festival at Marshall proved to be an enjoyable day for all the ohorus and band members who participated in it, along with the other schools of district nine. The Senior class play, Silas Marner, was held April 25th with LeRoy Hemish in the title role The Seniors were guests of the Juniors at the annual Banquet and Prom, May 10 and 16th The end of our school career came on May 29th, 1947, when 74 Seniors graduated from Canby High School.
