commander robert d. provost, jr. was born in houston, texas, on january 6, 1927. he began his naval career at the university of virginia, charlot- tesville, va., where he was a member of the naval reserve officers training corps. he received his commission as ensign on june 4, 1949, upon gradu- ation from the university with a bachelor of electri- cal engineering degree. he served aboard uss carmick qdms-337 from july 1949 until june 1951. during this time carmick was awarded the navy unit commendation for its part in the minesweeping operations off chinnam- po, korea. - from. july throughdecember 1951, he was a stu- dent at the cic school, naval air station, glenview, illinois. he returned to operations off korea in jan- uary 1952, serving as operations and cic officer a- board uss sproston Cdde-5773 until september 1953. from october 1953 to october 1954 he was com- manding officer of pc-1140 and pc-1590 on sar duty, hawaiian sea frontier. he was then ordered to serve as cicfasw instructor at the nu. s. post grad- uate school, monterey, calif., before reporting a- board uss durant Cder-3895 as executive officer and navigator from november 1956 through june 1958. he received a bachelor of science degree in com- munications electronics engineering from the u. s. navy post graduate school in june 1960. he was then ordered to assume duties as commanding of- ficer of uss pluck Cmso-4645 from july 1960 through march 1963. 5 'A he was chief of the operations branch, defense communications agency regional center, middle east and african region, ankara, turkey, when pro- moted to commander, april 1, 1964. he was com- manding officer of uss soley qdd-7073 until novem- ber 1967, assuming the duties of executive officer on canberra in december 1967. 111 receives navy commeztdation medal. f ,fi 4 if 5

Veal' admiral david harrington bagley was born in the hague, netherlands, on december 7, 1920, son of the late admiral david w. bagley and mrs. parie louise bagley. he graduated from the u. s. aval academy on june 9, 1943. following gradu- fon he reported on board uss ringgold qdd-5007 su med command of uss henderson Cdd-7853 in april 1958 and in august 1959 returned to the naval war college for the naval warfare course until december 1960. he had fitting out duty in uss Iuce Cdlg-75 and became commanding officer of that vessel upon her commissioning in may 1961. V 1 participated in various pacific campaigns until end of world war ll. from ringgold in november 1945, he instruction at the gunnery officers ordance anacostia, va., and subsequently reported ng out duty in uss forrest royal Cdd-8725 at lehem steel company, staten island, n.y. officer. from february 1947 to march served as executive officer and navigator ide-7955. he was next assistant officer Ccic and aswj on the staff of com- oyer force, u. s. pacific fleet, and in as operations officer on the staff destroyer seven. in that capacity in operations in the korean area of august 1951 to the executive depart- I academy, he remained there until which he attended the command at the naval war college, newport, he reported as navigator on board Ccl-833 and in march 1956 was de- assistant head of the pacific-far military poliy division in the of naval operations. he as- ul from may to august 1963 he served in the stra- tegic plans division, office ofthe chief of naval op- erations, after which he was assigned to the office of the assistant secretary of defense Cinternational security affairsj. in may 1964 he became execu- tive assistant and senior aide to the under secretary of the navy and in that capacity was awarded the legion of merit. in september 1966 he assumed command of uss oklahoma city qclg-55 in yokosu ka, japan, and remained in the billet until june 21, 1968. for duty during this period, he was awarded a gold star in lieu of a second legion of merit. in addition to the legions of merit, rear admiral bagley has the american defense medal, american campaign medal, asiatic-pacific campaign medal with two silver stars Cten operationsb, world war ll victory medal, navy occupation service medal with asia clasp, national defense service medal with bronze stars, vietnam service medal and the united nations serviceiimedal. he also has the republic of korea presidential unit citation badge. he is married to the former charlotte lee hart- well, of san mateo, calif., and they have five child- reng marie louise, david w. ll, peter, christopher, and laura. the bagleys live in coronado, calif. l l
