- Thruway exit number thirty-four, And a weekly newspaper Where high school football Makes front page ... Even when they lose. Private stores with Way-out prices Take the place of Fast food chains. The Erie Canal flows Through taking with it Whims of unspoken, unfulfilled Lives and fantasies. They silently float away To the next town. I am happy, It is peaceful here. Tammy Harrington Canastota, We just thought that we should take a moment to explain our theme and the reason that we chose it. Once upon a time you were small, people came and the land that you offered helped them grow. They worked hard and they were always determined to make you better. You profited from this hard work and strove to make the land and its people proud of you and your accomplishments. The land was the wealth—it sup- ported, it educated, it defined our heritage. The thread of that heritage was carried down through the generations. We are proud of that heritage and we must never forget all that you are. As we grew from small infants to seniors at CHS, you helped us to learn, to live, to love and to laugh. Without that help our lives would be very much different than what they are now. We are grateful to you. As we go our separate ways, we realize just how much you mean to us. As you taught us to be ourselves, we’ve learned to love you like a friend. Wherever we go, a memory of you and the things that you stand for will always be with us. Thank you Canastota for all that you are. For them. it will be one of the greatest hon- ors of their lives. The pupils are members of the Canastota High School Band. It is the only high school band :n the state to be invited to this year's Kentucky Derby Festival, the week-long cele- bration leading up to the famous horse race. Before, after, and in between the two com- petitions, the pupils have a full schedule of performances, tours and other activities. Canastota Band Director Bruce Busch dis- c ussed the band, the trip and his feelings after the bands Thursday night rehearsal This is my ninth year of teaching, and I’ve never had a group of kids work harder or with more dedication than this one, he said 1 he kids have been working very, very hard on the field show. They’re a very dedicated bunch of kids, says Busch. Last spring our marching band was chosen as one of our nations’ best bands and was invited to participate in the in- vitational Kentucky Derby Festival. The band traveled to Louisville, Kentucky where they competed in the field competition and the Pegasus Parade. The continued to establish a tradition of marching ex- cellence at C.H.S. this fall with their exciting precisive marching during the football half-times. As we put the finishing touches on the TOOT, we look back and we realize that it wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t thank some very special people. Sometimes words can’t express your true feelings. As we write this, it seems as though there should be more than words to tell you how we feel. But words are all we have. Miss Dixon and Miss Martin, you’ve always been the ones who were calm and didn’t fall apart. When we needed you, you were there, but you knew that we had to do it ourselves, you let it become OUR TOOT with our own mark on it. There is no way that we could ever measure what you’ve done for us... the uncountable hours and ideas that you’ve given us. Thank you. Mrs. Wright, you had the tough job-telling us if our dreams could be turned into reality without sending us into BANK- RUPTCY! Mrs. Cook was always there to put the BLUE tape on the boxes of yearbook pages. We can’t forget the people who helped and who would get no recognition, if we didn’t thank them now. John Mengucci our ad salesman: Katrina, our artist; and expecially Art Bargabos, our own ‘Candid Camera’. And our staffs-without you all, it wouldn’t have been possible. Thank you from TOOT ’79 Editors P.S. Mr. Monaco, we love you! Destiny ... is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved. William E. Henley f. Mari Linco tell, N. Mancini, T. Ha ■a. Their league record of 2-7-1 is not a true indication of how well they played. In only their second year in league competition, the Raiders lost 5 of their games by only one point, and held league defending champs, Clinton, scoreless through 30 min- utes of play. Other highlights included wins over Oneida, and for the first time, the CHS soccer team was awarded the Tri-Valley Sportsmanship Award for soccer. Tri- Valley league All-Stars included Bruce Cook, Tony Verno, and Rich Schnur. The future looks bright for the Raiders with the return of second team All-Stars A1 Crawford and Bob Caron. 70 Varsity Cheerleading and Varsity Tennis Row 1 V. Hopsicker, B. Tornatore, G. Ezzo, P. I, Brenda Virgil, leave Colleen a late pass for her whole senior year and to Billy, the best of luck in football through his years at CHS. I, Bruce Cook, leave to my brother, Doug, his senior year at CHS, to Mr. Fox, a winning season in soccer, and to Mr. Schnur, Mr. Wilbur, and Mr. Broga, all the strenuous work I did. 1, Julie Ramsdell, leave this school with my consolations. I, Nick Cappoletti, leave to my brother, Sam, all the good times and fun I had at CHS. I, Beth Tornatore, leave this school hoping the girls tennis team wins more than four matches a season and that McDonalds replaces their glass windows with steel. I, Kathy O’Hara, leave to Tim, Matthew, and Paul the ability to find their goal and work hard for it, and to Cindy, I leave a hat and “hello.” 176 Congratulations to the Class of 1979 from Rho Chapter of KE Society, especially to: Berg, Hoody, Brenda, LuAnn, Lori, Gigi, Mary, Laurie, Chris, Tina and Erin.
