THE CHIEFTAIN pll l TO THE CLASS OF 1947 Greeting his pupils the master asked: 'What would you learn from me?' and thc answer came: 'How Shall we care for our bodies? How shall we near our children? How shall we work together? For what end' shall. we live?' And the teacher pondered these woids, and sol-i-on was in his heart, for his learning touched not these things. For the past twelve years each one of you has been busily engaged in that 'process of 'mental acquisition and development known as education. You stand now on the threshold of emergence into a larger and far more challenging realm. The school has placed in your han-ds certain tools with which yolr are equipped to fight the battles you mo.st certainly will have to fight in this new sphere!-technical tools of mental accomplishment and physical skill. But the greatest tool, the finest weapon of all, the keenest blade it is possible for you to carry has not been given to you by the school. No, indeed. In fact, it could not. Because it lies within yourself. It is YOU, and what you are-YOUR CHARACTER. ' Your sch-ool has looked upon this character that is each of you, has breathed upon it, tried to mould and shape it to your future advantage: but whether it has succeeded orf failed remain.s to be written in the future pages that form the personal history of your life. It is my sincere hope and fondest wish that you will write them well. Live high. Live nobly. Live clean. Be true to yourself and you can not then be false to any man . These are not idle words. Please do not regard them as such. The world tis desperately in need of Real Men and Women, men and women of finer character, higher courage and stronger moral fiber to assume the rwponsibilities and burdens of a torn and bewildered civilization. It is a pleasure to eat in our cafeteria and to enjoy the wholesome as Well as inexpensive food served there. Our janitors, too, have been very patient and cooperative in all our school activities -during our years in both grades and high school.
