ii ESTHER M. MCKERR ELVA H. DHNSTON We, the Class of 1954, respectfully dedicate our yearbookto Mrs. Elva H. Johnston, vocal music instructor, and Miss Esther M. McKerr, English instructor. Our sentiments for these members of the Canandaigua Academy faculty are best expressed in the words of Confucius, who said: 'With the knowledge of the reasons for success in education and the causes of its failure, the superior man is then qualified to be a teacher. Therefore, in his teachings, the superior man guides his students but does not pull them along: he urges them to go forward and does not suppress themg he opens theway, but does not take them to the place. A teacher is one who tries to bring out the good and remedy the wealmesses of his students.
