ka . . One of the showcases in the Oley Speaks Music Library. One of the showplaces in Canal Winchester School is the beautiful Oley Speaks Library and Music Room. The room was dedicated December ll, 1949. Margaret Speaks,noted soprano soloist and niece of the late composer, The Honorable Frank Lausche, Gover- nor of Ohiog Miss Edith Keller, State Director of Musicg Dr. Howard L. Bevis, presid'ent of Ohio State University, Dr. Otto Mees, president emeritus of Capital Universityg and Dr. Clyde V. Hissong, State Director of Education were among the many notables present at the various dedication ceremonies. From the beginning, the purpose of the Oley Speaks Music Library has been to honor a local citizen and to provide a place to store his compositions, to provide a small recital hall and concert stage for presentation of local andfor other musical talent, and to furnish a rehearsal hall for our school musical or- ganizations. Visitors are always welcome to visit the library and to browse among the many mementos of the late Oley Speaks. Within the past year visitors have come from California, New York, Tennessee, and North Dakota. Margaret Speaks keeps in constant touch with the Library. She and Madge Drake,another niece,are the Library's closest and most enthusiastic boosters. Charles Speaks provides free copies of the History of the Oley Speaks Music Library to give to all the visitiors. Dr. Bland L. Stradley is chairman of the Board of Trustees and Mr. George C. THIRD ROW: John Crist, Jim Trogus,l-larley Swoyer, Mike I-lockman, Dick Turner, Noel Heister, David Spain, Dick Loucks, Bruce Davis, Ernie Cook. The football season started August 20, 1954, with twenty-seven fellows re- porting for practice. The squad, headed by co-captains Danny Crist and Ronnie Fridley, was light, but had a good spirit. The team took bad beatings in the first three games. In the last five games it showedarecord offour wins and a 6-0 loss to Gahanna. This latter game was one of two best played games of the entire season. Rival Groveport was defeated 12-7 in the homecoming game. The games with New Albany and Reynoldsburg were played in rain and mud. The Indians won both by scores of 19-l3 and 13-6 respectively. Two players were chosenfor the All-County Football team. They were Danny Crist on the offensive team and Rodney Wildermuth on the defensive team. Paul Trogus, Carl Heister, and Ronald Fridley rated Honorable Mentions.
