I-II-Y Today Mr. l-leim is our club advisor and has served in that capacity since l933. Although the club en- gages in social activities, it is intent upon the support and improvement of our school and community. Along this line and in cooperation with the Girl Reservesg baslcets containing Food and clothing were dis- tributed during the Christmas season. A picture show and chapel discussion was held at the high school dealing with the temperance problem. During the school year a series oF twelve dancing lessons was spon- sored by the Hi-Y Club. The librar- ians oF ccurse--those Faithful souls who must guess what bool: we want, when we only know the author's First name. lt's their duty to keep track ol: the 30 papers and magazines which circulate each period, the IOO boolcs which leave the library each day and more than that, they must appease the little youngsters From the grade school who just can't wait another day to read Mrs, Peter Rabbit . HETI ITIEE EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES The question is often aslzed Why include extra-curricular activities ia a school program? The justifica- tion For such, is ir the opportunities they provide students to meet and exercise honorable traits of char- acter. Desirable self-expression in its various forms is essential to social, mental and spiritual growth. A well balanced, properly controlled and efficiently applied extra-curricular program is a natural means oF securing desirable sell:-expression. lt may talre place as a result of action on the gridiron or hardwood court, in music, literary, dramatics or Forensic competition or it may emerge through participation in club wor' and class leadership, yet each desirable activity becomes an agency that tends to provide the parti- cipant with a maximum opportunity and necessary experience to help develop special abilities and specific personalities. The choice ol: an avocational pursuit for whiling away leisure hours may become a vocational activity in lilieg the interests aroused, knowledge acquired and slrills developed in extra-curricular participation may lead to specialization in new and worthy Fields. The game of today may be the career of tomorrow, the imagination of the present may be a reality of the Future, and the novice in childhood days may be the budding genius of later life.

GIRL RESERVES The Girl Reserve is an organization For girls of high school age which is fostered by the Y.W.C.A. It purpose is the development of Christian womanhood and the enrichment of personal and social living. Our club was organized in l932 and has a membership of twenty-Four. Speakers both instructive and inspirational have assisted us in our programs this past year. ORATORY TEAM The Oratory team members under the direction of their coach, Mr. Lutz, have made a splendid record For themselves regardless of the Fact that neither received First place. Alan Hobbs, one member of the team, lost by the vote of one judge, and Ada Jean White, the other member, lost out in the Finals. Both, we can say, did theirhvery best, 'and deserve all the credit given to them. S
