Foreword ,gg , 4 ,C iff The world today is caught up in a whirl of inter- national strife, super-sophistication, startling scien- tific breakthroughs, and everyday tensions and worries. With the outlook changing so constantly, we find ourselves wondering from day to day what kind of ax 3-4 Qs Ybisx Yi wk KA, W life the future will bring. People are beginning to realize the need for an escape from the rising ten- sions, tremendous pressures, and extremely complex problems of our twentieth century world. How can we break the barriers posed by race, creed, and color? How can we find peace of mind? No one seems able to find a definite answer, but perhaps one relatively simple solution is . . . music. Music may be the missing link in the chain which binds humanity. It is a treasure that anyone can possess, and the most wonderful thing about it is that it is always there giving hope to the hopeless and joy to the sorrowful. Music offers us the one thing that we seldom find time to enjoy - serenity. It is heard in the carefree song of the birds, in the wind whistling through lofty tree-tops, or in the pure un- restrained laughter of the child. Truly, the earth is alive with the sound of music. A1l the sounds of the earth are like music - Hammerstein ' Y! As it is the only organization of its kind in Mont- gomery County, we are proud to say that Canajoharie has been exposed to the culture only an orchestra can give. As young adults we realize the need for participation in one of our finer arts - music. Thank you for your guidance, your devotion, and most important, your great achievement. Mr. McMillan, we dedicate our 1963 BLACK AND GOLD to you. It is our small way of thanking you for the many hours you have spent with our high school band, both in and out of CHS. Music is a major part of our lives, as we seem to find it everywhere. Thanks to you, our assemblies have had more meaning, our football games more color. Truly our lives have been instilled with a deeper appreciation for music. Dedication , wr W f sf K mi -ff .. This year's senior class has come to appreciate more fully the worth of truly good music. For all this, we leave our heartfelt thanks and wish you continued success in developing high quality choirs. 1- . K, 1.-, 42 'R' W .451 .,. 1 1 Y x 4, X We wish to express our sincere appreciation to Miss Sawyer, whose efforts in the development of this yearbook have been tireless. She has been a helpful and conscien- tious guide as our librarian and advisor. For these and her many other contributions to our class, we say thank you. In Appreciation . . . Mr. Gobo, our sincere appreciation goes to you for the time you have given to help us with our yearbook. Your guidance as an advisor, as well as a homeroom teach- er, has helped us through many tight situations. Senior Pastimes You have been in high school during a time when public education has emphasized the academic to a degree not seen before. This is good! As you were digesting more subject matter, however, I pray you have gotten the point that you were also in the process of becomingg that it is not totally the purpose of the school to turn out finished products. The hope is that you have seen that the development of adequate persons implies continuing learning. You should have a positive view of yourself, be open to experience, be creative, trustworthy and responsible, have values, and continue to be well-informed. Iohn Deisseroth Supervising Principal Dear Graduate: It has been said that responsibilities begin in dreams and obligations in opportunities. Our nation was founded on a dream that men could be free - free to worship as they wished. free to seek an education and a vocation of their choice, and free to live happy and useful lives. Now that you are about to accept the responsibilities and obligations of active citizenship, it becomes your privilege and duty to preserve this great American dream for others who will follow you. I am proud to have had some small part in the educational process of which you are the product, and hope you will receive a generous portion of the blessings which life has to bestow. Ralph E.
