Even now, we can remember with amusement certain naive adolescent ideas, which growing experience urged us to discard. And again in the years to come, we shall re- call the tears we shed over petty things: the bridges we burned behind us: the advice we rarely followedg the rebellion we often felt and the mistakes we made. But overshadowing these are the more precious memories of the wonderful people we knew, the fascinating places we saw, the exciting things we did when we were young. Old landmarks may prompt a lump in the throat and forgotten friendships may be revived. Recollected memories, such as these, uuly add to our growth. It is hoped, therefore, that the 1958 BLACK AND GOLD will recall for the reader the fondest memories of youth now and in the years to come. Music, unless you sing is nothing. - Arturo Toscanini Because singing is so closely associated with man, it is a part of life itself. Sing- ing responds to the emotions and interprets our feelings and sensitivities more vividly than does any other form of musical art. Music is indeed a universal language understood by all the peoples of the earth. That is why the United States government regularly sends to other countries such good- will ambassadors as Marian Anderson.
