The Class of '47 presented its annual Senior Play and to the surprise of all, our Best Foot Forward proved to be a great success. With the hubbub of trying out over and Shirley Ruby and Barton Leneker chosen for the leading roles of Gale Joy, the popular young movie actress, and Bud Hooper, Winsocki boy who discovered he couldn't be two people at one time, the play was underway. Practice, practice, and more practice! True, we all thought Mrs. Smith would collapse under the strain of trying to teach us all those little im- portant fundamentals of drama, but she finally succeeded and on Tuesday, November 26, we made our debut. We wish to take this opportunity to say once again, Thanks everybody. And a special thanks to Mrs. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Lipowicz and Miss Bernice Brown. 17 Name Ruth Downes Richard Van Schaick Natalie Eaker George Williams Thomas Mowrey Norma Chuiminato John Pickett Mahlon Wrobel Barton Leneker Anthony Palm Angelo Iannlello Bertha Oeser Margaret Ferguson Phyllis Christiance Caroline Scott Leona Mihuka Marion Frank Marilyn Fleming Dorothy DeAngelis Margaret Touhey Hertha Fiebiger Sally Loop Prudy Niemyer Barbara Mingst Donald Quackenbush Bob Hedler Shirley Ruby Walden Shults Lelah Lou Failing Linden Failing Richard Sitts Ioan Dicks Iames Mulligan Robert Bailey Frank Ramsey . In the midst of the crackling lines and humorous discussion of dates comes Bud Hooper, who is plenty gloomy. His roommates finally find out the trouble. A month ago when they went to see a movie starring Gale Joy - the wham girl - the trouble started. Bud got carried away and he wrote the movie star, asked her to come to the prom. And she accepts! fThey don't know how she needs a publicity break! Bud has hastily written his regular date, Helen, that he has had an attack of the grippe and expects to have it until after the dance. But, so that the faculty won't get angry, Bud tries to take the publicity-need- ing Gale Joy to the dance as his girl Helen - and then Helen arrives. Bud gets deeper and deeper into trouble, and the final happy solution that saves Bud will be known when the Senior play is given in the high school auditorium on November 25 and 26, 1946. BIOLOGY CLUB BECOMES 'KOMO SAPIENS CLUB The Biology Club met for the second and third time, choosing the new and rather different name of Homo Sapiens. Of course, you all know what that means - wise men - you know, like we have at C. C. S. On October 4, Mr. Ossant met with the club and gave a short interesting talk on the relationship between agriculture and egber sciences. Later the constitution was read and ac- cepte . After the meeting the club members went for a short trip around the school grounds, observing many of the common weeds and trees, while Prof. Ayres explained their various characteristics. Ireland has a story about the origin of the jack-o-Lanterns carried on Ha1lowe'en. It seems that a stingy man named Jack was barred from Heaven because of his penuriousness and forbidden to enter Hell because of his practical jokes on the devil so he was condemed to walk the earth with his lan- tern until judgement day. I'd like to leave you with this little gem I know the boys will appreciate: Ghosts, like ladies never speak till spoken to. I did so read it! It's the truth! Grade, junior High, and Senior High school students are invited to enter this contest. Prizes of 85, 83, S2 and two prizes bf Sl will be given to winners of both age groups. Windows were assigned to each contestant and drawings are coming along very well. Seniors Hold Raffle Since last year's Juniors have become this years Seniors, the Senior treasury is almost to rock bottom. To give it a boost and to raise class morale, it was decided to hold a raffle. A very large box of hard to get commodities goes to the winner. This box of groceries contains such things as butter, heavy cream, soap flakes, bars of soap, and home can- ned fruit. The Student Council selected the members of the Corridor Club, who were required to have an average above 85 percent, be responsible and loyal in order to fulfill the duties to which they had been pledged. One of the main problems of the Cor- ridor Club is to fix upon the minds of the stu- dent body that they should conduct themselves orderly and quietly through the corridors, to be on time to class and to help in impressing upon them all, the necessity of good disci- pline and cooperation.
