CANADIAN MENNONITE BIBLE COLLEGE .ISIlMlMIllll ill i u n III lit 1 111 i 1 ! i,l 4 foreword The experiences of the Christian ' s life are a discovery of faith, of Christian community, of self, and of the world. A thorough integration of these experiences brings purpose and wholesome fulfill¬ ment to life. At C.M.B.C. we are challenged to find the foundation of our faith, the meaning of Chris¬ tian fellowship, the value of knowing ourselves, and our response to the world of persons. C.M.B.C. is a place of discovery. BETTY KEHLER faith 7 $ . • • ' :.■ • ' .-■-• ■ ' ■ : ■ -- • . I ' - - ' ' ' ' ---? v.,.■■■ ;■ x : y . .. ' ■ . . • • .. -v , :: ... - ■ ■, ■■■ : r -. This interaction is faith. We, too, participate in the dialogue of faith as we en¬ counter God in our lives, particularly in worship and biblical studies. Faith gives us the necessary security to venture into the future with anticipation. Community becomes dynamic as we live together, studying, socializing and sharing in discussions. The encounter between stu¬ dents and faculty and staff enriches and adds new dimensions to student life. Fur¬ thermore, the community is a testing ground to examine the authenticity of our witness, be it word or act. The C.M.B.C. community is part of a larger community, the constituency. Through exchanges both college and constituency gain perspective on their roles. HENRY POETTCKER, B.D., Th.D. President Instruction: New Testament faculty PRESIDENT ' S ADDRESS There is something thrilling about making discoveries. All of us remember the stories we read about explorers who went into the unknown and discovered new lands, treasures and peoples. With them we foo had new vistas opened to us. The student who moves out into the world and whose particular chapter of the world includes C.M.B.C. makes his discoveries too. Faith can take on a new and living dimension and a sense of community can grow out of the family context which has become so meaningful here. The discovery of self is a further vista that opens to the student in the academic setKng. This may be both a frustrating and encouraging experience, yet one that must come for anyone to relate meaningfully to his Creator, to his Lord and to his fellow man. You, the reader, are invited to make your own dis¬ coveries as you browse through these pages. WALDEMAR JANZEN, M.A., Th.M. (Ph.D. cand.) Student Service Apart from the routine of classes and studies, students give a portion of their time each week to service. As we become engaged in Christian service we must become involved with our whole being and speak to the total needs of the in¬ dividual. We express our love and concern for the individual in visitations, teaching, and per¬ sonal relationships. The concern group organized to study the churcl community in history: their findings they sharei with various church groups. a ■; . i i . jHp [ 1 _ - 1 % _ I- self As we participate in worship, academic studies, social activities and service oppor¬ tunities we continually seek to identify our¬ selves in relationship to those around us. Integrating our identities in experiences and activities into a unified whole is an inte¬ gral part of maturing. In the need to define who we are, we give expressions to ourselves and our ideas. Self expressions in art, music, speech, and writing enrich life. In our college life, our encounter with ideas and situations causes us to examine our beliefs critically. At times we must probe to the very basis, or foundation, of the beliefs which we have been taught, only to find that we actually have no firm base to stand on. Once we have established a solid foundation, we can rebuild our beliefs; the result is a stronger and more stable Christian faith. Only when we are made aware of what we really believe, and why we believe it, do we be¬ come individuals. Erwin Warkentin EL EANORE REMPEL Ste. Anne, Man. EDWIN GIESBRECHT Martensville, Sask. I remember the insecure but expectant person who entered the door of this school such a long time ago. I remember the first year of conflict and adjustment, the second year of growing awe and inspiration as exciting realms of the old and new became a part of my experience. I am indeed grateful for the third year in which the jumbled complex of encounters began to shape itself into meaning. I thank you for the school which has helped me find my personhood by seeking with other persons in your presence. Grant me the grace to live my discoveries in the future. Amen.
