Text from Pages 1 - 94 of the 1966 volume:

' •a: ' . . . • - .fV Canadian mennonite bible college Winnipeg, Manitoba SHAmsa Man is a responsive being. He must res¬ pond to new ideas and thoughts which constantly confront him, and to people and situations which he encounters. In the environment of CMBC we are chal¬ lenged and influenced by research, read¬ ing, and lectures by interaction with other persons, and by response to God. In this context we are called to respond. DEDICATION We dedicate this yearbook to one who has given unstintingly of herself. Annie Janzen ' s response to her faith in God brought her to the College kitchen. However, her life of response extends beyond the College context and finds expression through the Church and Summer Voluntary Service. H er example of devoted service is an inspiration to us. Constituency Faculty and Staff Students WE RESPOND TO PERSONS Dr. Mary Oyer, Goshen College. 1 J ■ Y 4 1 P • f . !Ji W jSl - M f tf — f ' ] —I — ■—-i -M —-j 1 —i r“j •——f J —-j --“I ■——i -- j -- !— -4 r 1 k -——1 1 f— H- ' f - ' 11 ' “ h—- i H.— La i L L i k LAWRENCE KLIPPENSTEIN Dean of Students Instructor in Bible and History WALDEMAR JANZEN, Th.M. Instructor in Bible and German ' ' 1 l 1 ' L 1 The Scriptures repeatedly admonish us to grow in faith, in the knowledge of Christ, in brotherly love, and in commitment to Christ. The student ' s stay at College can be such a time of growth. Christian growth does not consist of the number of facts mastered or remembered — not even facts about the Bible or about theology. It speaks much more of a growing depth in our relationship to Christ, our Savior and Lord. This relationship with Christ is strengthened as we grow in our understanding of His Word and Will, as we learn to know and use the gifts and talents God has given us, and as we learn obedi¬ ence to Christ in our daily walk. In this sense all of life is a school and the concern for Christian growth does not cease when a stu¬ dent leaves College. We recognize that the work done at College can be fruitful only as it is used of God. DAVID SCHROEDER, D.Th. ERMA MARTIN Copper Cliff, Ont. ALVIN PETERS Mather, Man. BERT LOBE Osier, Sask. Upon arrival at Canadian Mennonite Bible College we responded to many novel situations. An experience in the dormitory, a university ' approach in class, or a new interpretation of a biblical passage evoked meditation or discussion with students and instructors. I remember especially one lecture in Old Testament which emphasized God ' s covenant with Israel. This covenant was symbolized by the Ten Commandments. The keeping of the law was to be a sign of loyalty, not merely a means of eliciting God ' s favour. I then thought of my own relationship to God. Did I pray only so that God would bless me, or was my prayer a response to His love, a desire to know Him better? VERA PETERS Abbotsford, B.C. College is providing both the tools and setting for growth in the ability to respond. We are practicing the basic language and music skills and in our courses we are confronted with many new facts and concepts about the Bible and about other areas of knowledge. As old ideas crumble, we grope for meaning. We are in the process of re-thinking our faith. Through personal relationships with instructors and other students we are beginning to experience meaning. Our new direc¬ tions of thought are being tested in the community. The issues which we face affect our total life and call for a response of our whole being. Ron Rempel DOREEN GUENTHER Osier, Sask. Here we have had many encounters. We have grappled with the ideas of great men. ' Me have formed community with others like ourselves who came to see and to share and to grow together. But more than these, we have met God — in the ordinary and in the new, in contentment and in struggle, in the moment and in retrospect. As Graduates we have the concrete encounter of CMBC behind us. We now have the opportunity and responsibility of sharing what we have received. NA e are called as servants, who have sharpened their tools, to incarnate the Gospel of our Lord as we return to the church and take up our vocation or continue studies.
