1 7 ENCOUNTER FOREWORD Life assumes meaning where God encounters man. En¬ counter with God is mediated through life experiences. These experiences help to bridge the gap between the finite and the infinite. Canadian Mennonite Bible College has provided the sphere for an encounter between God and man in these past months. It is this experience which we wish to portray in these pages. DEDICATION TO GEORGE AND ESTHER WIEBE music affords an avenue for en ression counter with God. We are deeply indebted to those who have dedicated themselves to the furtherance of sacred music, and who have shaped our music department at CMBC. We dedicate this student annual to Mr. and Mrs George D. Wiebe. Through unstinted service and sincere devotion they have enriched the lives of all students with whom they have come into contact. CONTEXT FOR ENCOUNTER Encounter with God occurs in the Church. There our faith is nurtured. There it finds meaning. The Church is the unifying force in Christianity. CMBC is a servant arm of the Church. While we are here, it becomes the Church for us. The activities listed in the various sections of this book are functions of the Church. OUR BACKGROUND WE COME FROM ENCOUNTER WITH PERSONS God created man for relationship with persons. Truth about the meaning of life is conveyed to us through such relationships. Koinonia is vital for life at CMBC. GRADUATES LORNE BUHR, Bachelor of Christian Education Langham, Sask. Scroll Editor Rescue Mission Counselling VALEDICTORY We have reached a milestone in our life. Perhaps the road signs point only one or two steps ahead. We will take those steps into the future. Through our encounters here we have experienced some of that freedom needed to obey Sod ' s call. We know that we have studied, dis¬ cussed and lived at college only to be sent out to share our testimony with others. Our talents are various and we will use them in various places. We are confident that our God will go with us. LYDIA NEUFELD, Bachelor of Christian Education Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario Missions Com. Chairman Hospital Counselling LORNE W. President Adviser to Student Council The many encounters which students have during the course of the year ought to impress them with the values therein contained. May this annual serve to remind each one of the value of trusting God, of relating to a brother and of continuing in personal maturity. Knowledge does not save us. But content helps a relationship to take on form and pur¬ pose. At CMBC we look upon intellectual development as preparation for service. In serving we encounter Him. Service is the thank-offering of an encounter with God. Let it be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord. At CMBC we have many opportunities to extend a cup of cold water. I WAS LOST ... iW MHK3EK ENCOUNTER IN WORSHIP The centre tor man ' s fulfillment lies outside himself. He needs to be one with God. This unity is fulfilled only in the worship of God. Man ' s greatest need on all levels of experience is to encounter God in worship. The student at CMBC does so through intellectual exercise, through social interaction, through artistic expression, through service opportunities and through devotional meetings. God sent His Son to fill these diverse exper¬ iences with significant life-meaning. For this, let us bow down and worship Him. ' WHERE TWO OR THREE ARE GATHERED...
