ISAAC I. FRIESEN, B.A., M.EcL B.D., D.D. PRESIDENT, DEAN OF CURRICULUM, INSTRUCTOR OF THEOLOGY AND GREEK Building Three Tabernacles In Matthew 17:4 we read, “Lord it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.” Peter wanted to build three tabernacles to commemorate each of the three persons he had seen on the Mount of Transfiguration. As we in our new Bible College look forward to building spiritually as well as materially we may well think of building three tabernacles. First we need to build a tabernacle for Christ. Our college needs to be “Christ-centered.” Christ, who stands at the center of the Christian faith must in all things continue to have the pre¬ eminence amongst us. Secondly we need to build a tabernacle for Moses. The law in its divine majesty still has a purpose for us both before and after we come to Christ. As the divine law, in all its severity faces us, it is our taskmaster to lead us to Christ. But after we have come to Christ, His high standards of absolute purity, love, honesty and unselfishness must be constantly kept in mind, if we are to be His faithful followers. Finally we need a tabernacle for Elias, that great prophet who fearlessly took up his stand for God against the false gods of his day. We too must have a fearless testimony for our Lord at a time when millions are bowing down before other gods. But Elias’ testimony and his great prayer life were intimately connected. Fire and rain came from heaven as the result of his petitions to God. May our college also be a mighty place of prayer to a God who can show us great and mighty things which we know not. Isaac I. Friesen.
