—I Petrus 2:5, 6. 7 C.M.B.C. is being presented to you again. It has been a year of growth, both spiritually and physically. It is our sincere hope and desire that this book will portray in some measure the growth and development we have experienced during the past year. We also hope that it will help you to appreciate and cherish your college and its work more fully. 9 W idmung 10 • FACULTY • BOARD • STUDENTS • ACTIVITIES • AROUND THE CAMPUS • CHURCH CONTRIBUTIONS Contents 11 Spiritual Builders V . ISAAC I. FRIESEN, B.A., M.EcL B.D., D.D. PRESIDENT, DEAN OF CURRICULUM, INSTRUCTOR OF THEOLOGY AND GREEK Building Three Tabernacles In Matthew 17:4 we read, “Lord it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.” Peter wanted to build three tabernacles to commemorate each of the three persons he had seen on the Mount of Transfiguration. As we in our new Bible College look forward to building spiritually as well as materially we may well think of building three tabernacles. First we need to build a tabernacle for Christ. Our college needs to be “Christ-centered.” Christ, who stands at the center of the Christian faith must in all things continue to have the pre¬ eminence amongst us. Secondly we need to build a tabernacle for Moses. The law in its divine majesty still has a purpose for us both before and after we come to Christ. As the divine law, in all its severity faces us, it is our taskmaster to lead us to Christ. But after we have come to Christ, His high standards of absolute purity, love, honesty and unselfishness must be constantly kept in mind, if we are to be His faithful followers. Finally we need a tabernacle for Elias, that great prophet who fearlessly took up his stand for God against the false gods of his day. We too must have a fearless testimony for our Lord at a time when millions are bowing down before other gods. But Elias’ testimony and his great prayer life were intimately connected. Fire and rain came from heaven as the result of his petitions to God. May our college also be a mighty place of prayer to a God who can show us great and mighty things which we know not. Isaac I. I be¬ lieve we all realize that the sustenance of the body depends upon daily nourishment. Mrs. Wiens has provided this nourishment in a very palatable manner, and meal time at C.M.B.C. has always been an enjoyable event. No doubt the social aspect as well as the food have contributed to the making of well rounded personalities. Mr. Wiens, our able janitor, has made the college a comfortable and tidy place. Little David adds to the circle of the family the little noises which a family cannot be without. It is the aim of the college to promote an atmosphere in which the individual can develop, not only in scriptural knowledge, but also in a social way. The various activities including the dining hall experiences, lounge talks, recreational room fun and off the record happenings are all things which aid in the growth of the total man. To live and to experience things with fellow Christians and to put into practice what is taught in Scriptures is after all the best way to develop a sound Christian character. . .” Mary L. Rempel. 31 Cementing Activities STUDENT COUNCIL Peter Letkeman, vice-president; Katie Kehler, Jessie Neufeld, secretary; Bernie Retzlaff, Diedrich Gerbrandt, president; Menno Epp. Student President’s Report Frequent allegorical reference is made in Scrip¬ tures to building. This is a process which requires great care. The architect must not only anticipate the end result from the beginning but he must also design an efficient working plan so that every move will add towards the final total structure. Every individual is also incessantly building, plac¬ ing stone on stone, layer on layer, in the structure of his character. Man builds well or ill as he regards or disregards the Divine Architect. This analogy of building connotes a double aspect in that man is not only the builder but also the material out of which structures are erected. Invariably stones do not fit into the exact places allotted to them but must be re¬ modelled by the precise blows of a hammer. Students also are not “made to measure,” material, but need “refitting” and “reshaping,” before they become an integral part of God’s temple. Honest self examination will reveal protruding edges and rugged corners that need to be chipped off. Through self discipline and training, through an adherence to God’s Word, and the leading of His Spirit we are molded to fit into the fabric of this “Spiritual Home.” Much as individual believers submit to the influence of the Master’s hand, they need to be united one to another, to make out of this edifice a completed structure. Various factors promote this attachment one to another. The struggles and victories of our forefathers, which in the course of time have formulated into a rich heritage, have equally become ours. Basically though, it is the convictions we formulate through our experiences as disciples, that determines our mutual feeling of oneness. Faith and love are the ingredients of the cement, that combines stone to stone, in this beautiful temple, built on the chief corner, the Lord Jesus Christ.
