Williams BI Satellite School The Satellite School of Canadian, Texas was started in February 1970 with classes being held in the basement of the First Christian Church. They are now held in Old Baker School. The older students work on a contract basis stripping rubber or plastic insulation off of pieces of copper wire. Another job they have done to earn personal money is lacing western belts. Each day the students are given training which will help them to learn to do simple work. The students are taught to do educational things such as sorting similar objects of various colors into separate groups. They are taught to print their names, addresses, and to do simple mathematics. The school is open the year round. Mrs. May has a full-time helper, Debbie Ford. Each student requires individual help throughout the day. The Satellite school provides train- ing for trainable students toward independent living. Persons of all ages, men, women, boys and girls enjoy golf. Golf is a skill rather than strength. More people play golf than any other sport. Golf is also a popular spectator sport. It was probably developed in Scotland about 1100 from a Roman game called Paga- nica. Crooked sticks and fur balls were used as equipment. Since there is no class time provided for golf, they meet everyday after school and are planning a summer practice program. These girls put in two to three hours a day of their own spare time. They arranged the books according to the Dewey Decimal system and made sure all the cards were in order. They arranged all magazines which are kept for five years in alphabetical order and chronological order.
