Foreword A 5- . ,. -- 5-w ., , ,gg 4- vw , ntzaihf- ' 'kk Q 1' rd! Q 5155-ggslagfe fr-.5.i11lL,J 'Kgs .- Wi When one comes to a river, a canyon, or a lake he invariably wants to cross over to the other side. The desire is strong to cross natural barriers which come into your way, to see how things look from the other side, Thus grew the demand for bridges, So, man has spanned little creeks and hollows, rivers both great and small, canyons deep and wide, and even arms of the sea in order to get the view from the other side. Bridgeshave become one of man's greatest achievements and assets, and many stand today as masterpieces of architectural and engineering design, Their strength and utility make our modern way of life possible, Their massive beauty is a symbol of progress and achievement. They challenge us to move forward and to seek new fields to conquer. They smooth out a rough way and carry us across difficulties otherwise insurmountable. The lure of the other side is strong, and may we rernember-- We build a bridge with the years of our life, We span the rivers of difficulty and strife By building a foundation centered in love, And fashioned from His pattern sent from above. We cross with our fellows along life's highway The canyons of doubt and the lakes of dismayg And trust that our bridge built with our time May point other lives across His bridge sublime, A
