JOAN CHAMBERS NOVAK 916 Porpolse Austln TX 78734 C512 261 67603 To begln wlth I have had a wonderful llfe from the day I was born ln my grandmothers house on Maln Street lD Canadlan After graduatlng I attended Stephens College ln Columbus MO a Jr Women s College Recelved a degree ln 1943 Marrled Jack Osborne 1D August 1943 Jack was ea Navy pllot I was able to be wlth hlm most of the tlme durlng the war In 1945 we came to Canadlan for a short time then to Pampa where our two boys were born Son Frank llves 1D Pampa Mlchael llves ln Austln Each have a glrl and a boy that I enjoy so much Moved to Austln 1D 1971 met and marrled a retlred Navy Captaln We moved to Lakeway 1D 1975 a retlrement communlty on Lake Travls 20 mlles out of Austln wlth golf courses etc John and I traveled extenslvly always wlth golf 1D mlnd Have been fortunate enough to play many of the courses 1D the States and numerous forlgn countrles John dled 1D 1987 I am now marrled to Charlle Novak whom I have known for years We are very happy golfing brldge UT Basketball and Football Most of all we both work 1D our wonderful Ecumenlcal Church one of the few ln exlstance DORSEY TUBB Box 1127 , Canadlan TX 79014 After graduatlng from Hlgh School I entered Texas A S M when World War II was declared I qult school and was drafted I spent three years ln the Phlllpplnes and New Gulnea returnlng home lH 1945 on the same shlp wlth Curley Owens and Jlm McMeans from Manlla I went lnto the ranchlng and farmlng buslness wlth my father I marrled Gena and we had two chlldren Mlke and Teresa Mlke lS a laser technlclan 1D Mountaln Vlew and Teresa lS a housewlfe ln Houston wlth two chlldren I went lnto ranchlng and farmlng buslness on my own In 1964 and retlred from ranchlng 1D 1978 and from farming 1D 1980 My wlfe and I have traveled the world extenslvely and have enjoyed retlrement I really enjoy turnlng over and golng back to sleep or slttlng by the flreplace when lt lS 14 degrees below zero and snowlng and blowlng outslde' I have had three heart blopsys and seven angloplastys lH the past eleven years and feel wonderful We contlnue to llve ln Canadlan and lntend to travel more 1 1 1 f . WILBUR MERRELL 23 Brown Street Henderson NV 89015 we l I can t say I have had as exciting a life as some of you but here goes my story After graduating from CHS I put in a very hard summer on a farm working from 4 am to 9 pm I swore that I would never work on a farm again so I went to Chicago to a trade school I was there when the war broke out Later in l942 I enlisted in the Navy I went all over the South Pacific Came back to the States in l945 I had 30 days leave coming so I came back to Canadian to visit my family Spent some time with Norman Curnutt Visited several people at the Kilarney Cafe After I was discharged from the Navy I went to Santa Barabra California to go to USC which did not last long I couldn t support a wife and go to College too I then moved to Norwalq Worked as a n electrician construction Also drove a truck hauling hay I bought L acre of land in Buena Park CA built a house on the land We now had two girls In l95O I contacted Polio and spent a year in the Hospital While I was still in the wheelchair I wanted to go to college First College I contacted would not accept me because I was in the wheelchair I then went to Long Beach Electronics Graduated with a degree in Electronics in l953 While I was still on crutches a fellow hire me to repair radios and TV s In l953 we came to Las Vegas NV We had a third daughter in l957 I managed a TV and Appliance Store in Boulder City My wife filed for divorce in l965 I l966 I met a very wonderful lady named Thelma We went together for 3 years I was now a Department Manager for a very large department store in Las Vegas Thelma and I were married in I969 She has 5 children 3 boys and 22 girls with my E3 girls we now have 8 children Thank God they didn t all live here at home I opened aa TV' and Appliance Store in Henderson NV in l974 We kept the store until l986 At that time we retired and we are enjoying every minute We have a very large family 8 children 24 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren Keeps us busy We don t have the money to do much traveling Post polio is catching up with me so I guess we will spend our kids inheritance and do a little t aveling before it is too late I have a lot of fun going places in my wheelchair watching peoples faces how they try to ignore me I usually get a smile out of them one way or another of course some are impossible we go to shows on the strip and who goes in firstc I DO' We go to a buffet and we get the royal treatment So there are a lot of advantages being handicapped All the pr etty girls smile at me Well that brings it up to date The life of a Country Boy .:.L- . gl, 1 I , . . .
