A . . - . - ' 1 . . . . . . . . . . - - BUCK WORLEY 1100 Mary Ellen Pampa TX 79065 C806 665 89791 I left Canadian soon after graduation and went to Dallas to Luscombe School of Aeronautics to learn something about building airplanes After that short time I went to work for Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation in San Diego helping to build the B 24 bomber I left California in early 1943 to enter the Army Air Corp under the Aviation Cadet Program I graduated in early 1945 and finished the War as a Fixed Gunnery Instructor and remained in the Air Force Reserve until 1971 when I retired I returned to Canadian after being discharged from active duty in 1945 and worked for Sisco ElSCtflC installing REA service until they finished the Canadian part of their contract They left and I stayed going to work for White House Lunber Company in 1946 Along about this time Chleo and I were married and that resulted in one son Chuck He and his family live in Dayton Ohio I worked for White House until 1957 at which time I resigned and went into the Public Accounting business until 1959when I returned to work for White House Lumber This time I 1asted until 1970 when I resigned again to go into the glass business In 1975 I Lumber Company which I did while still maintaining my interest in the glass company I continued to purchase parts of my partners interest until 1989 when I acquired the last remaining interest I guess I will have to remain with the firm now MARGARET NIX SANDERS Rt 2 Box Canadian TX 79014 C806 323 60855 I married Homer Sanders October 13 1941 and four days later he was drafted into the Army While he served. over two years I remained in Canadian awaiting his return We moved to Gem Community to farm and ranch in 1943 and still live in the grand community we byuilt our home here in September 1952 We raised two children both are CHS graduates Janiz Lunsford Smith of Granbury Texas and Debie McCravens of Canadian There are two grandchildren Jamie Lunsford and Tyrel McCravens I am a long time member of Tri C Home Demonstration Club joining in 1946 and received two plaques for Woman of The Year of Hemphill County Home Demonstration Clubs in 1977 and 1978 We attend Gem Baptist Church I served as teacher, Treasurer, song leader, and I am Church Clerk Homer is a Deacon Homer retired in 1990 We celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary October 13, 1991 in Granbury My health went bad in 1989 I had a stroke in May and cancer surgery in September 1989 I had Chemotherapy for 8 months at Harrington Cancer Center in Amarillo I have had a good life, good friends, loving family, and a great husband God has richly blessed me these 67 years of life. Cwargaret wrote this in December, 1991, and died January 7, 19929 was offered the opportunity to purchase a part interest in White House 18 GEORGIA LEE MORRIS ISAACS Box 785 Canadian TX 79014 C806 323 60641 After graduating from CHS lH 1941 I attended North Texas State at Denton for one year Came back to Canadian and worked at the Canadian Lumber Company as bookkeeper This was a good job and decided to stay on for another year and then go back to college ThlS didn t happen for I went to work at the First National Bank loved this job and stayed there until 1945 Quentin Isaacs and I were married that same year We had two sons David and B111 In 1959 we moved into our present home built on the ranch west of Canadian Now we have four grandchildren two boys and two girls Both sons and their families 1 ve 1D or near Canadian We are very pleased they came back to their hometown Ours lS a close family and we think l1fe here on the ranch lS so rewarding that we could w1sh for no better place to live and F3136 the grandchildren WAYNE BAKER 915 CODkllD Canadian TX 79014 1806 323 65195 After graduating CHS 1n 1941 I spent three years in the Army A1r Corps mostly in England during WW II I returned to Canadian and married Maxine Bryan CHS Class of 43 in July 1945 Was discharged from A1r Corp November 1945 we have one daughter Carolyn Sims living in Canyon with husband David and three of the most precious grandkids God ever gave Panhandle of Texas for 31. years ret1r1ng JI1 1976 D1d surveying and engineering around Canadian for four years retired again Worked. as General Manager for Love Company Wholesale Dr11l1ng Fluids for six years retired. again Now II play golf teach an adult Bible 131ass at First Christian Church teach Defensive Driving Course to the Public QlVe deVOtlODS and teach B1b1e Classes and history lessons to the res1dents of Abraham Memorial Home I serve on the Board of Directors of Cookson H1115 Christian Ministries which operates a Children s Home near Canadian well as in Kansas Missouri Oklahoma Florida and Haiti I m Secretary Treasurer for the Panhandle Evangelist Association an organization which starts Christian Churches in Oklahoma and Texas I serve on the Board of D1rectors of Canadian Golf Cldb We enyov good health good l1v1ng and traveling hav ng been to Europe tv c the Br1t1sh Isles twice Alaska Nova Scotia Hawai Aust alia and New Zealand But mostly I play golf Q ' . ' - WILBUR MERRELL 23 Brown Street Henderson NV 89015 we l I can t say I have had as exciting a life as some of you but here goes my story After graduating from CHS I put in a very hard summer on a farm working from 4 am to 9 pm I swore that I would never work on a farm again so I went to Chicago to a trade school I was there when the war broke out Later in l942 I enlisted in the Navy I went all over the South Pacific Came back to the States in l945 I had 30 days leave coming so I came back to Canadian to visit my family Spent some time with Norman Curnutt Visited several people at the Kilarney Cafe After I was discharged from the Navy I went to Santa Barabra California to go to USC which did not last long I couldn t support a wife and go to College too I then moved to Norwalq Worked as a n electrician construction Also drove a truck hauling hay I bought L acre of land in Buena Park CA built a house on the land We now had two girls In l95O I contacted Polio and spent a year in the Hospital While I was still in the wheelchair I wanted to go to college First College I contacted would not accept me because I was in the wheelchair I then went to Long Beach Electronics Graduated with a degree in Electronics in l953 While I was still on crutches a fellow hire me to repair radios and TV s In l953 we came to Las Vegas NV We had a third daughter in l957 I managed a TV and Appliance Store in Boulder City My wife filed for divorce in l965 I l966 I met a very wonderful lady named Thelma We went together for 3 years I was now a Department Manager for a very large department store in Las Vegas Thelma and I were married in I969 She has 5 children 3 boys and 22 girls with my E3 girls we now have 8 children Thank God they didn t all live here at home I opened aa TV' and Appliance Store in Henderson NV in l974 We kept the store until l986 At that time we retired and we are enjoying every minute We have a very large family 8 children 24 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren Keeps us busy We don t have the money to do much traveling Post polio is catching up with me so I guess we will spend our kids inheritance and do a little t aveling before it is too late I have a lot of fun going places in my wheelchair watching peoples faces how they try to ignore me I usually get a smile out of them one way or another of course some are impossible we go to shows on the strip and who goes in firstc I DO' We go to a buffet and we get the royal treatment So there are a lot of advantages being handicapped All the pr etty girls smile at me Well that brings it up to date The life of a Country Boy .:.L- . gl, 1 I , . . . Curently he is in business for himself I belong to Trinity United Methodist Church. I visit friends, work in my flower garden so life goes on Nothing too exciting, I am afraid Relations field. My specialty is resolution of conflict in the workplace. n ' n ' n a No Picture SALVADOR PARRA SVS 1 1 ab 1 9- 4408 55th Str 'Savvy was Lubbock TX 79414 absent i806 792 12467 that day I have been on the road As all you might recall I was struck by lightning app roximately three weeks after graduation I thought that was the end of any future plans I had in mind Eventually I was drafted into the Army and left Canadian January 7 1943 to be sworn into the Army and departed for Ft Sill on January 14 1943 I stayed there aproximately two weeks just long enough to get my shots and clothing proceeded to Jefferson Barracks MO to March Field CA on to Banning CA to Indio to Thermal CA and onto the desert of Yuma AZ From there I was sent to Camp Stonement CA for shipment to Schofield Barracks and after a brief rest went to Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands returned to Schofield Barracks and subsequently went to Guam After being at Guam for a short period it was time to move onto Okinawa when the war ended we were preparing to to to Japan I spent three Christmas overseas I returned to Vancouver WA and dwent to Ft Sam Houston for seperation on January 14 1946 After my seperation from the Army I stayed in Canadian for several months went to Amarillo to work and finally enrolled at Texas Tech in September 1946 After much struggle I graduated in January 1950 with BS in Public Administration Still yearning for Military life I was commissioned in the Air Force and entered active duty in May 1951 I was assiggned to Eglin AFB FL shortly thereafter I was selected for assignment to the Air Force Office of Special Investigations I went to Barksdal AFB LA and later went to Washington DC for training on three ocassions Later QI was assigned to Jackson MS onto Ramey AFB P uerto Rico While there I was on assignments to the Virgin Islands and Martinque I returned to Kelly AFB TX then to McConnell AFB KS Peshawar Pakistan While stationed there: I was on assigments to New Delhi India Karachi Pakistan Kabul Aghanistan and Ankara Turkey visited Istanbul I went thru the Khyber Pass on four occassions Going and returning I had stop overs at Beirut Lebanon Rove Italy Paris France and New York Saw the world s fair in 1965 I went to Homestead AFB FL onto the Canal Zone Panama While at Panama I was on assignment to Buenos Aires Argentina with stop overs at Lima Peru and Santiago Chile While Stationed at Homestead AFB I was on assigment for two weeks at the Republican Convention Miami Beach in 1968 the same year I was on assignment to George Wallace on one of his talks I served as Detachment Commander Cheif of Personnel Security Investigations and Cheif of Operations during my tour with the Spe cial Investigations After traveling so much I retired in June of 1970 as a Major I worked full time with the Texas Employment Commission in Lubbock from December 1970 to June 1986 and as of January 1987 I have been working part time four hours per day' I am married and have a son and a daughter who reside in Dallas My family went with me to Puerto Rico Pakistan and Panama My Daughter has a Journalism degree from the University of Missouri and a MBA from Tech My son has a BA and MA from Tech and working on his PHD he also has private flying license plus instructor s license and he served as lst Lt 1nArmy My wife is a few hours short of a degree from Tech I have been to Army and Air Force reunions at St Louis Seattle went to Vancouver BC from there Sacramento Clearwater FL San Antonio Dallas and Reno I have been active with the Golden K Kiawanis Club president three years Retired Officer s Association Secretary two years and treasurer one year Texas Tech Century Club Trustee Texas Tech Dads and Moms Association 854th Spearheaders Association DAV and Association of Former USAF Special Agents I also attended Ann Richards Inagural Ball at Austin in January 1991 as a guest of my wife since she received the invitation' I play golf at every opportunity' I suppose that all of you might conclude that I have itchy feet I ll IIIlIIIIII lII CA., . , , . WANDA PHILLIPS ROCKEL 1 7 ,ow 1506 Hllltown Plke 83 'L In September l94l I went to West Texas State as I wasn t old enough to enter nurslng school whlch was my ambltlon My mother hoped I would change my mlnd 1D that year and become a teacher But I stlll wanted to be a nurse I thought So 1D September 1942 I entered the nurslng school at Scott and Whlte Hospltal Temple Texas June 5 l943 I marrled Lt John H Rockel from Pennsylvanla who was statloned at Camp Hood when he was transferred from Camp Hood I left nurslng school to go with hlm Eventually ln 1946 after the war we came to Pennsylvanla so John could when anyone asks me how I am war booty other flnlsh college And I have been here ever slnce I came to be ln Pennsylvanla I tell them that soldlers brought home rlfles and helments I m home After my chlldren were 1D school I began on a part tlme basls However I dldn t qulte ge chlld entered college so I stopped agaln The three ln college lt became lmperatlve that I try what my husband brought to attend college agaln flnlshed when our flrst next year when we had to earn some money so I started worklng Flrst as a proofreader then I became a computer programmer Before I retlred ln March 1990 I was managlng a department of programmers as well as belng a senlor programmer analyst I stlll work as a programmer on a part tlme basls After all three of our chlldren flnlshed college they urged me to f1n1sh my degree So May 1980 I flnally recelved a BA ln Mathematlcs from Temple Unlverslty 1D Phlladelphla I contend that makes me the world s slowest learner as lt was 39 years after I graduated from CHS that I flnally graduated from college Through the years we travelled around the Unlted States lncludlng attendlng the 1984 Olymplcs ln Los Angeles We also made a trlp to Austrla and Germany whlch was very enjoyable even though we almost bot thrown off a traln 1n Germany because we dldn t know that you should reserve seats on thelr tralns I thlnk our most enjoyable trlps were two whltewater raft trlps on the Colorado Rlver through Grand Canyon I am a wldow now In December 1990 John surrered a severe dlsabllng stroke and he dled August 27 1991 as a consequence We made lt to Canadlan for several of the hlgh school reunions and I hope to attend the next one also. In addltlon to my three children, I also have four grandchlldren. I 'I Q ' JIM PAYTON 1773 Kirkmont Dr San Jose CA 95124 C408 978 29227 After graduation I. attended Howard Payne College 111 Brownwood Texas After that the Navy attempted to add to my education There were brief stays t Southwestern University t Georgetown Texas Columbia University in New York City and Northwestern University in Chicago where I was commissioned I was ordered to New Guinea as the Skipper of a LTC CLanding Craft Tankj McArthur s Navy Subsequently I was sent to the Philippines and participated in several assault landings on the Island of Mindanao We also assisted in the staging operations for the Okinawa invasion and the Japanese invasion which thankfully did not occur I was released from active duty in the Philippines in 1946 Four of us opened a commercial shipping company utilizing surplus LCT s with offices and home port in Cebu City We provided temporary shipping service to various areas in the archipelago until port facilities were restored In 1952 I joined Getz Bros S Co a San Francisco based Company as a salesman in their Manila Office On vacation trip to Texas in 1959 I met and married Connie Kubecka Wichita Falls Finest' At this time I was assistant general manager of the Getz s Philipines operations that consisted of import export manufacturers reps and a rather extensive distribution system Our daughter Patricia was born in where I was general manager for Getz s facilities in Singapore Malasia and Indonesia we were transfered to Taipei Taiwan as general manager for an exciting two years My mother had always advised me to settle down and I finally did in 1966 when I Joined Merrill Lynch in San Jose CA I am currently as assistant vice president and help my clients manage somewhat under S100 million Our daughter graduated from Stanford University in 1982 and is married and living in Los Angeles Connie and I do enjoy most weekends at our condo in Carmel which is about an hour and twenty minute drive from San Jose I have no current retirement plans I have had an exciting live and have seen. a great deal of the world However I have never met better le that TEXANS ELODIA ESTRADA GUERRERO Rt 1 Box 66 Miami TX 79059 1806 868 37813 Elodia Estrada and Jose L Guerrero were married in April 1942 In December 1942 my husband was drafted into the Army where he served for three years in France and England when he came back we moved to Miami TX We had four sons all of whom graduated from Miami High School and three af them attended college two served in the Navy and one in the National Guard All are married now and as I have two step daughters I have six. grandsons six granddaughters and six great grandsons' They seem to come in sixes for me My husband died of a heart attack in 1977 I am a member of The Sacred Heart Church in Canadian where I have beena member for over 70 years I belong to the Alter Society My hobbies are Crocheting afghans and making quilts Some of them I have received ribbons for at the Fair in Canadian. No picture CHARLES C STALLCUP avagjble 1716 S 2nd St Tucumcari NM 88401 4505 461 19427 Well it s been a long time since that May a 37 w en I le Canadian There has been a lot of water under the bridge since then when we moved to New Mexico it was an experience I will never forget The country was completely different and the people were too I tried to get a Job with the contractors building Conchas Dam and they told me they hired men not kids I found a Job with a Spanish family that owned a grocery store and gas station I worked for them for two and one half years They treated me like I was one of the family and still do I have the run of their ranch for hunting and fishing After the dam was finished we moved into Tucumcari and II went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation in their warehouse In October of 1943 I Joined the Navy I took my Boot Camp at Camp Perry near Williamsberg Va From there we were sent to Camp LeJeune North Carolina a Marine Camp The school was an Infantry Tactical Training course Wading the swamps at night with water Camp Parks CA and put in a seabee unit From there we were sent to Barbers Point Navel Air Station on Oahu Hawaii for more training jungle warfare Then to Enewitok to Saipan and on to Okinawa from April 9 to December 5 1945 when the war was over I returned home and back to my old job In 1947 I went to work for the City of Tucumcari at the Municipal power plant and for several years my s pervisor was John Armstrong Buck Worley s father in law I learned to fly on the G I Bill and have more than 250 hours in various types of aircraft single engine I have been married 42 years to a wonderful wife We have two daughters and five grandchildren Three are Army Brats and travel a great deal are in Okinawa at this time and they speak several languages The other two live in Canyon TX At present I am the Director of the Family Center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints CMormonD We have one hundred and forty eight million names on the IGI compac disc Twelve million on the ancestral file Forty million on the Social Security file and death Index records Casualty records of the Korean and Vietnam wars are those that are missing In closing I will say Vaya Con Dios to alll!!
