Harriers Finish Fourth, A L l sl mn Pflo The 1973-74 Cross-Country season could be termed successful by some, but by most of the team members it wasn't so successful. Led by Senior Kelly Cooper and junior Robin Wagoner, the Colts finished fourth in the Ark Valley and sent two runners to State Tournament. The two competing at State were Kelly Cooper and Robin Wagoner. State was held this year at Salina, Kan- sas. There were 16 teams competing with 124 runners. Both finished in the top 25 runners, with Robin finish- ing 23 and Kelly finishing 24. Kelly and Robin got to go to State by placing in the top 10 at Regionals with Kelly placing third and Robin placing sixth, both runners competing among 70 run- ners and 10 teams. As a team, Kelly and Robin finished fifth. gy E 'A fyrgf '.. -' 1 .ff Don Berry 82 O-1' w-f,t,.-'f-twQ- kb- 1 C I H: sv. . . , K.. 3- Vx T gif' .fb ' i ' if 3 'fl' V 'lv , Q' w K Mads, NY L is 5 fi Ron Pinkston :ju-I 5 N . . Cooper, agoner Set Pace At State Senior Cross Country Captain Kelly Cooper has come a long way with the Colts since he started running his freshman year at Campus High School. Starting Varsity, the runner showed natu- ral talent in running long distances. Taking the year with seven medals, Kelly was one of very few freshmen who lettered. As a sophomore, Kelly ran in 11 meets and fin- ished a good year winning eight medals and as- sisting with two team medals. As a junior, Kelly came off with 13 medals and took fifth in the Ark Valley League. The team went on to place first in the Ark Valley Tournament. Becoming a senior put a lot of responsibilities on Cooper as he was voted team Captain. Kelly took a third place in Regionals and also placed third in the Ark Valley Meet. Four years of hard work and ambitious practice finally paid off as Kelly made the trip to state his Senior year. Kelly stated that he enjoyed his four years at Campus, but didn't know whether he was going to college yet or not. Kelly also stated that this years victories were team efforts not individual efforts. Junior Robin Wagoner lead the 1973-74 Cross Country Team as Co-Captain. As a two year run- ner in Cross Country, Robin claims 15 medals and two top honors in the Ark Valley League. Robin didn't go out for Cross Country and played football his freshman year, but then decid- ed that with his ability at speed he would best fit the roll of long distance running. During his sophomore year, Robin earned eight medals and placed 41 out of about 90 runners in the state meet. During the 1972-73 school year Campus runners placed third at regionals and then went on to capture seventh at state. Running full force his junior year, Robin took fifth place at the AVL meet in Hutchinson and the team placed fourth. Robin earned seven medals during his junior year and he placed 23 out of about 90 runners in the state meet. Along with Kelly Cooper, Captain, Robin placed in the top ten runners at State. To compete in state meets a team must first place in the top three. During this year, the Cross Country Team placed fourth and could not compete in the AVL tournament. But because Kelly and Robin did place in the top ten runners at Regionals, they were intitled to run in the AVL meet. 84 0-1'
