FHA Helps US Orphan Sponsoring a United States or- phan from the Christian Children Service became a main project for Future Teachers of America, Homemakers also strived for self development through other service projects on Campus and off. 1973-74 was the first year this club has been active at Campus High School. FHA is a National Organiza- tion of students studying home economics in junior and senior high schools throughout the United States. Officers provide opportunities for developing individual and group initiative. These officers were, president, Becky Kessler, vice president, Tina Newport, secretary, Terri johnson, treasurer, Marilyn Cummings, publicity chairman, Teresa Conley, program chairman, Debbie Vanderhoof. Sponsoring FHA were, Mrs. Bonnie Dowell, and Miss Deborah Irwin. Needle Arts Knit, Crochet Do your own thing, through creativity in the area of any needle crafts such as needlepoint, crewls, stitchery, rug hooking, knitting, and Crocheting. Throughout the 1973-74 school year this slogan was heard around Campus as the main purpose of the first year Needle Arts Club. Students were to provide their own project materials to work on at the meetings. A display of articles in Designed Creations, were exhib- ited in Spring. Sponsors for Needle Arts were, Mrs. Bonnie Dowell, Mrs. Carole Perez, Mr. George Baird, and Mrs. Mary McGolden, Holding the posi- tion of club officers were, Mona Riggs, president, Debbie Logan, vice president, Pam Venable, secre- tary, Penny Smith, historian. 131 0-r

Chess Club Shows Talent Primary functions of the Chess Club were to provide enjoyment, relaxation, and competition, for students interested in chess. Students met monthly to practice and improve chess skills, and challenge others to a game of chess. The main activity of the year for Chess Club was to name the 1973-74 chess champion. The champion was chosen by each student playing one another until an individual was proven the finest chess player in the club. Club officers were, john Barr, president, Carl Eng- dahl, vice president, Bill Campbell, secretary and treasurer, sponsor was Mr. Robert Cairns. Science Club Plans Trips Science Club was organ- ized to provide opportunity for those interested in sci- ence, to further activities in the science related areas, and to provide added knowledge of opportunities in all fields of science. Club members participat- ed in an overnight trip to the Salt Plains and Little Sahara in Oklahoma. Due to the fuel shortage there was not a spring fieldtrip. Officers of the club were, Biff Gates, president, Steve Heiman, vice president, Sharon Stevens, secretary, and Cheryl Konkel, program chairman. Safety Club Sets Goals Helping Haysville Police Depart- ment conduct checks, participate in safety contests, viewing vehicle safety films and conducting surveys to find critical potential accident locations at school and in the com- munity, all were a very big part of the 1973-74 Safety Club projects. Safety Club is an organization made to unify all interested eligible teenagers into a homogeneous group to set forth the responsibili- ties and obligations of each andt every individual in the prevention of accidents in our community. Officers for Safety Club were, Dennis Riggs, president, james McQuilken, vice president, Brenda George, secretary and treasurer. Mr. Frank Nachtigal sponsored the club. Rifle Club Studies Guns Students who stress interest in ri- fles, machine guns, tear gas, and riot guns used in law enforcement, have assembled together in the Ri- fle Club. Each active member of the club had the opportunity to devel- op or improve his or her ability at handling a gun. Safety and respect for a gun are the two main objects of Rifle Club. Activities throughout the year in- cluded picnics, special speakers, and of course target practices.
