FCA Sets Christian Goals Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a group of all male students who are interested in athletics and wish to participate in Christian fellowship. FCA consists of approximately 25 students, who listen to various spe- cial speakers, and watch numerous films on Christian Athletes. This is a new club on campus de- signed for these students, with en- riching and developing Christian ideas in mind. It gives them each a chance to experience the possibility of mixing Christianity and athletics together. Officers of FCA were Pat Tesch ke, president, Steve Darr, vice presi- dent, Mike Crum, secretary and treasurer, john Brockleman, devo- tional chairman. Mr. Kenneth Sla- bach and Mr. Glenn Crum spon- sored FCA for the 1973-74 school year. Sports Club ffers Help Campus Sports Club was de- signed to increase interest in girls sports, provide students with addi- tional information in the general area of sports, and to show the new trends in women's sports. Money making projects were a main project for Campus Sports in hopes that the girls might have the opportunity to participate in a summer athletic camp or clinic. Campus sport girls had the re- sponsibility to supervise clinics for the Haysville junior High School. Teaching junior high students the art of various sports which they may take place in once they are in high school was the purpose of these clinics. FTA Club Seeks Future Many students go through high school waiting for one moment and that is the moment when they walk up the aisle and pick up their diploma. While some students have loved every moment of their high school days, and have lived them to the fullest. These students wish to someday help other young people enjoy high school and at the same time prepare them for the future as we have been prepared. These students have joined to- gether in the Future Teachers of America club. This club has been organized for the purpose of help- ing students realize the pros and cons of teaching. Officers of FTA were, Leola Riggs, president, Jeanette Kates, vice pres- ident, Pauline Werner, recorder, Chris Darby, correspondent, Paula Werner, Historian. While FTA spon- sors were, Mrs. Louise Herrington, Mrs. Judy Melzer, and Mrs. Thelma Hughes. NHS Club Gives Honors National Honor Society has been organized for the sole purpose of creating enthusiasm for scholar- ships, stimulating desires to render service, promoting worthy leader- ship, and encouraging develop- ment of character. Activities of NHS include tutoring students who seek and need help in their studies, raising money for scholarships for worthy and needy students by working in the conces- sion stand, selling booster buttons, and working on other fund raising projects, helping with the Red Cross at the Junior High during the fall. Lettermen, Top Athletes The Lettermen Club's project for the 1973-74 school year included two booths at the Haysville junior High School Booster Club Carnival, putting up signs in the coke room, and placing trash cans at different locations around the school. Letter- men Club members took an over- night trip in the spring for the Let- termen's invitation. There were 40 members in the club including offi- cers Mike Ybarra, president, Pat Teschke, vice president, Doug Gar- ton, secretary, and Gary Nichols, sergeant at arms. Mr. Don Harmi- son was sponsor for the club. Kayettes Aid Needy Kayettes club was designed to help each member reach six objec- tives. These objectives are, religion, personality, leadership, service, appreciation, and responsibility. No formal religion is taught in such a group, but each member is urged to attend the church of her choice. During the month of November Kayette members had a swim party and an overnighter. The club also performed services for the school and needy organizations. One such project was, visiting the St. joseph Hospital on December 15, to talk to sick children. The girls also sold spook insurance before Halloween. Officers for the club were, Paula Barker, president, janet jacobs, vice president, Dawn Warrington, sec- retary, and Pam Ward, treasurer.
