I 4 ff? 4' 0 O I Editor's Note Last year was a beginning, this year was filled with repetitious ideas, and lots of hard work. The 1986 Maple Trail seemed to elude me all year long. There was still chaos and confusion. I figured that I was one year older and one year wiser and I hoped for the yearbook to come together beautifully. Wrong! The deadlines still haunted me. I never seemed to have the time to take the picture or write the copy. But, finally the time came and the Maple Trail came together. It seems as though freshman week had just ended and homecoming was history when graduation rolled around. I feel like all these pages are for the senior class. The theme of the Maple Trail is Now For Something Better. It is for the graduates time for something better. I hope I have captured a part of their personality in these pages. The Theme seemed to depict the freshman class as they were beginning to strive for something bet- ter. They had begun their four year search of knowledge and good times. I will flatter myself, and hope that everyone will find something that they can relate to or find pleasure in. It is a thrill to me when I know that a picture allowed someone to remember a great moment or some Ny... E:......f+ -K ' fn i?'v :ff-'cn copy reminded them of many forgotten details. I guess that was my goal when I started this project. Well, I have used up enough space and I haven't thanked anyone. I would like to thank Public Rela- tions and Joan McKinney for all of her help. Thanks to the newspaper staff, Cynthia Williams for her pic- tures, the Maple Trail Staff, Dr. Doty, and everyone who helped me along the way. A special thanks has to goto my special friends: Sherry, the family, and everyone who has helped me survive these three years. ENJOY! The carnival had a threefold purpose Randy Weaver, student development associate, commented. lt is to raise money for clubs and organizations to operate on throughout the year, to help students fellowship and make new friends, and to serve as a public relations effort or our part to involve the community in campus events. Among the groups that participated were the Art Club, Stapp Hall, BSU, Women's Basketball Team. Horseback riding was also a hit. lt was sponsored by the Church Music Conference. Stapp Hall was filled with good food, exciting booths, and warm smiles on a chilly October day. x-ja . jx '- ,J if . ,N 1 4, Y Y x .y. The gym is transposed into a din- ing room and a stage, filled with good food and magical per- formances. When you are away from home during the Christmas holidays it is hard to capture the spirit of the season. The celebration kindles the fire and sparkles the eyes of the children with anticipation. Homecoming 1985 was without a doubt the most successful homecoming ever. The weekend of November 22 and 23rd will be remembered by many as the best weekend at school. The week was filled with new and exciting events. On Monday, November 18, homecoming week was kicked off with Western Dress Day and an Old Fashioned Hoedown. The pace changed with Tuesday bringing Hawaiian Dress Day and one of the most successful events, the Hawaiian Luau in the cafeteria. The traditional facultyfstudent volleyball game was held in the Athletic Center. The week was concluded with Hat and T-shirt day and school colors day. A favorite of the student body and the athletes was a pep rally held on Main Street in Campbellsville. Friday brought to the delight of everyone, Jerry Clower, country humorist. Clower thanked his pastor Rev. James F. Yates of First Baptist Church in Yazoo City, Mississippi for bringing him to Campbellsville. Reverend Yates was a 1945 graduate of Campbellsville College. Some 655 persons were in attendance. On Saturday, the parade was especially colorful with the Salute to Disney theme. Alpha Rho Tau won the Grand Master float award. The parade was led by Grand Marshals, Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Saturday afternoon alumni visited the division get- togethers and just naturally found old friends to spend time together. Late that evening, both the Tigers and the Lady Tigers had vic- tories on the basketball court. The capacity crowd watched as the Tigers rolled over Brecia College Bearcats 101 to 87. The Lady Tigers posted a strong victory, 101 to 40 by defeating St. Catharine College. The night was not finished yet. The week was wound up with the crowning of Miss Audra Wilcox of Madisonville. The first runner-up was Monica Vaught of Cincinnati, Ohio. Second runner- up was Tammy Smith of Mount Washington, KY and Third runner-up was Carol Combs of Oneida. The freshman attendant was Nan- cy Cox of Campbellsville. Audra Wilcox represented the Sophomore Class. Following the game, Audra was honored with a reception in the Little Auditorium. She was greeted by alumni and friends. I am not quite sure if all of this captures or even summarizes all of the excitement of this homecoming week. Student Government Homecoming Chairperson, Pam Hardy spent many long and hard hours coordinating everything. Pam Hardy is a junior at Campbellsville College. She deserves a big thanks for all her hard work this homecoming. HOMECOMING 1985 - THE BEST EVER! -dug 1 ww.. Q X Vg S I F rg -I.. s. 723 T A . 5? - , .' in I ' N Y 'iw 4 ' U N .8 . ...... By Melissa York Hard work, discipline, and en- joyment are three things that Lady Tiger Coach Donna Wise feels makes one successful. Wise should know. ln her eleventh year of coaching basket- ball, she is ranked thirteenth among all women coaches in the National Association of lnter- collegiate athletics and a victory against Alice Lloyd Jan. 16 gave her 200 wins. Wise concentrates on not overcoaching. She doesn't make the team follow a strict diet or sleeping plan. She advises them to eat well, sleep, and stay away from things that will harm their playing ability. Also, before games, the team prays and recon- siders their offensive and defen- sive plays with emphasis on defensive play. She contributes her success to the kids she's had over the years here. She is proud of peoples progress and likes to see students be successful. Some more Wise advice to young people wanting success is to learn self-discipline and determination. 4 ,V . .f .- ' HQ' 4 yy QQ. , ts sf -M Coach Wise and the Lady Tigers realize the value in preparation. The Tigers were faced with replacing four starters. The only returning starter was sophomore Rob Daley. The Tigers turned on for their first home game by defeating Brescia 101-87. Keenan Bridgewater led all scoring with 37 points. Aubrey Fritz scored 27 points, and Bob Daley had 23 points. The Tiger team is small in size but has great quickness and jumping ability. Midway through the season the Tigers were led by Bridgewater averaging 21.8 points, Daley leading re- bounder with 8.8. Aubrey Fritz shoots from the free throw line 66070 and 50070 from the field. Doug Wingler is leading with assists with 4.1 per game. The Tigers entered the KIAC conference tournament playing well, but they fell short. The Tigers dropped to Georgetown by one point. This loss shattered any hope of a district seat. The Tigers are looking forward to next year's season with the loss of only one senior, Peter Distefano. According to Margaret Whitehead, co-historian of the Chorale, the 29-member group performed sacred reper- toire everywhere except at Walt Disney World, which is more of an entertainment complex. These programs were varied and some had special effects. Fiddler on the Roof and Jinglin' Janglin' Rag were choreographed. Whitehead believes this is a first for the Chorale. Fanfare for the Bells was memorized by the 15 hand- bell members and played from the aisles. Other highlights of the trip included Disney World, because after performing to a capacity crowd they were able to spend the rest of the day sight-seeing. While in Dover, Florida, which is the winter strawberry capital of the world, the town was celebrating their annual strawberry festival. Everything we ate there had strawberries in it! Whitehead chuckled. At Melbourne, Florida, the group took out time to look at the ocean before performing. This was a first for many of the singers. Another highlight was Steve Henry, former campus minister intern, coming to the performance in Decatur, Alabama. He lives close to there. Next year, chorale will tour Washington, D.C. ll, sf - Q, ' if V J, Regina Williams, David Salyers, Kathy Hardy.
