It's a time when some take a short vacation from the books, many re- new old friendships while others simply enjoy the many activities. In the other half of the Dating Game, Tom Pol- ing somehow tricked Deedee Smith into selecting him as her date. Andrus Black- wood and Co. provided an enjoyable con- cert as did Gentle Spirit. The six made door-to-door vis- itations at Metzmeier Nursing Home dispensing charm, 71 silk flowers and Christmas cheer from behind the smiles of clowns. The six clowns also stood in the halls and rooms and sang Christ- mas carols. The good deed was performed as a service project by the club mem- bers. STUDENT LIFE 41 Sonshine Player' Each summer, several students from colleges and universities around Kentucky are se- lected through auditions to perform in vari- ous Christian teams, or groups. Teams usu- ally consist of at least five people and have specific purposes-drama, music, or recrea- tion. They begin their summer with an in- tensive two weeks of preparation at Camp Cedarmore in Bagdad, Kentucky, before go- ing on tour. This year Campbellsville College was well represented in all areas. At left and below are Stephanie Mobley, Terry Salyer, and Donnie Waltermire as they perform in their drama group. Commuters Commuters enjoy many things not available to the dorm resident. A few of these include no room checks, no curfew, no cafeteria food, and no laundry. Even with these benefits there are many drawbacks to commuting. A commuter finds very few chances to make new friends on campus. Along with this alienation, the commuter finds it difficult to get involved with college activities on campus. The stu- dents at Campbellsville College should be saluted for their successful efforts to make the commuter feel as though they are a part of the college family. S 4. At least that's what I gathered from the series of the Newlywed Game on campus. At one of the games, three out of four wives pre- dicted that her husband would say that his wife was the most beautiful woman in the world. Guess what? Three of the husbands answered that way. Such mush. That's not all though. Each of the husbands and each of the wives agreed that the male spouse was the first to try to make up after a serious argument. How nice. Whatever happened to the strong, dominant hus- band? Has the equal rights movement taken that away from us too? That's too bad. We're becoming a generation of women and, well, something less than men. Whatever happened to the good old days of legalized wife-beating? Maybe a course ought to be offered in wife-beating so some of these fallen members of man -kind can regain their male status, as well as their dignity. The real problem appears to be that these once- dominant males have been domesticated into docile playthings by their wives. And here's a warning: three of these four couples first met on this campus. Steve Lanham as 50 Student Life -Zfi 7i7 Handbell Choir In addition to the various music en- sembles and organizations already on campus, students had a first time opportunity this year to join the newly-formed handbell choir. Under the direction of Dr. Ron Smith, the ringers played at several functions including church perfor- mances in Louisville and Lexington, and performances at campus con- vocations and luncheons. The ringers played a variety of music both sacred and secular. Representing the college at the State Handbell Convention, the group returned with honors, having earned an A rating. Membership was strictly on a volun- tary basis this year. Next year a class is planned for beginners, with tryouts to determine membership in the choir itself. STUDENT LIFE 51 if fvmw 'Qi x. , 4 7 . x 2 f 1, fTI 1 2-1 an of LaMancha In theater, it is often said that a good actor can't sing and a good singer can't act. Such was not the case with cast members of Man of LaMancha', which was presented by Campbellsville Community Theatre April 24, 25, and 26, in Alumni Chapel. Every actor and actress had the ability to carry a tune as Well as carry off his or her characterization. Directed by Russ Mobley, assistant professor of drama, the play is set in the common room of a stone prison vault in Seville, Spain at the end of the 15th century, and is a play within a play. The music and the action of the play meshed to create a total pro- duction. Unlike a lot of musicals, the actors and actresses did not seem to break into song at unlikely moments. Dialogue and lyrics flowed and blended into one another. The cast and crew of Man of LaMancha can be proud of a well- sung, well-acted, Well-performed production. It was a total artistic experience for the audiences. STUDENT LIFE 03 Fun 'n Games the Rec Room The rec room proved to be the center of activity on campus again this year. Although many students en- joyed the games provided, including pool, ping pong, and bumper pool, there were other reasons for gath- ering at the rec room. Among them, picking up members of the opposite sex, relaxing, or just keep- ing an eye on how many ping pong balls were sold from the bubble gum machine. Considering the amount of student abuse given the equipment and the room itself, Rick Sandlin, stu- dent director, did a good job of keeping the rec room in working order. is--v Q4 STUDENT LIFE BN SDPRK. 1 'Q Larry Yates Suzanne Mobley Brad Johnson K ... - .ix l w i........... - - l I G2 E s dub X Q10 , -4 Pa 9 Z if f' X ,A t L5- I ,, f i ,, A if 54 '1 W 71 X , QS- 1-53-P 9 f f 'fl if Su l iff' I Q N J ' S A i 7 ,V 5 X' N 1 14. - 1 A. f . . ,D IL r 0 ,X L tufis 38102- Tiger Baseball Team In Action . How could the Tigers have won that elusive crown after such a dismal 1978 campaign? The players did an excellent job, but the man who orchestrated it was Coach Lou Cunningham. Picked to finish on top in 1980, Sweet Lou looked to bring his total of championships to three, the first having been won in 1971. Every player contributed in 1980, with the most no- table players being James Bouleware, Vann Webb, Joey Stewart, Roy Walker, and Cecil Ellis. Junior college transfer Fred Parker and freshman Tim Wood- ard were also relied upon. Without any of the top seven players graduating, we can't help but think of 1981. With Coach Cunningham at the helm, this is the closest you'll ever get to seeing a sure thing. 310 Standing from left, coach Lou Cunningham, Vann Webb, Barry Caudill, Tim Woodard, Terry Wright, James Boulware, Kenny Watson, Randy Graham, and assistant coach Danny Bausum. In the past two years they have compiled a team record of over 100 wins against only 25 losses. They have filled the trophy case with two K.I.A.C. Championships, one District Championship, and a trip to the National Tournament. Although the squad had lost three members from last year's winning team, Coleman felt that our squad had the potential to be the best in Campbellsville College's his- tory. Keep up the good work Coach Coleman. We can always build another trophy case! Athletics 81 Behind every successful team there stands a person to Whom We sometimes fail to give enough credit to. This person has many headaches and responsi- bilities, including scheduling games, spending many hours preparing the team, sleepless nights, and the role of peace-maker when tempers sometimes flare. These people are the coaches, who at Campbellsville College possess other traits as Well. They inspire their players with leadership and teach them the true meaning of sportsmanship. At Campbellsville College, we are proud of our coaches and their untir- ing efforts in leading our teams to victory. 'N 'MACH ,,,,,,,.,, , . But does a third place finish in the state KWIC Tournament sound like a rebuilding time, Doc? The spring of 1980 brought expectations as high as they were low in 1979. Returning was team leader, Donna Sadler White. As a senior, Donna teamed up with Susan Whatley as they tried to repeat a state runner-up win in doubles. Athletics 85 1979-80 Lady Tiger Softball Coach Donna Wise has officially established herself as a coaching wizard in something other than basketball. In their inaugural season, Coach Wise and her Lady Tiger Softball Team proved to be nothing less than sen- sational. Compiling a 9-3 record, the Lady Tigers recorded wins over such biggies as Western Kentucky Uni- versity, and Kentucky State. In the season ending KWIC Tournament, the Lady Tigers slugged their way to a fourth place finish. What an accomplishment this was since the tournament consisted not only of small col- leges, but large universities as well, many of which had scholarship players. Returning virtually everyone, and with a much improved defense, Coach Wise says her Lady Tigers won't be satisfied with fourth place next time around. Knowing Coach Wise, the sky will be the limit. Informal sports provide opportunities for relaxation and recreation and for students to practice Christian sportsmanship. Under the direction of Keith French and Joetta Harlow, in- tramurals took a new turn this year. New firsts included frisbee golf and tennis and golf tournaments. Also taking a new turn this year was team rivalry, which reached a peak during football season. Football seemed to provide an outlet for supressed hostility and pent-up aggres- sion. Rivalry actually reached violent proportions between the Heads and Bad Company.
