Essentially a group of realists, We are fortunate, since our address is tomorrow, to let our idealism and pragmatism be as one. v ' .rf We dreamed, but we also achieved. We spoke out for the better way --not in revolt--but as contributors to improvement. We were molded, stretched, and hammered into form fashioned to help meet our own per- sonal commitment. FORWARD 3 We are like children who Wish on rain- bows, like the artists who paint them, and like scientists who explore them. We live as one--a Community of learners dedicated to God. FORWARD 4 if l it A gt: Q ' td f ,. -. -1-fi' 'Mi-, sl ' l .ir 1 We seek to be a Christ-centered co-educa- tional senior college of the liberal arts and sci- ences that combines a sense of academic ex- cellence. We aspire to be a community of competent, concerned, and committed learners taught and guided hy a Christian faculty and administration in an atmosphere conducive to Christian living, learning, and leading. if ,fi ' af' ,QQ F17TfTT-' 'T ' W I2 R 74 .1 1,3 FORWARD 5 lA., Our tradition demands growth to provide pl- aces in which to develop physically, mentally, and spiritually. And, our growth is dependent on our spirit, for civilization, at its best, is nothing more than a storehouse of manikins if it lacks or subdues spirit. For spirit is that which feeds the soul, enabling the individual to function and ma- ture. 6 FORWARD V- , iff- , ' ' ' 4- 'V fiarkixsiiifskvuzcf- , 1 Mem, . , rw'-, . . -- f ' Despite all this, we keep ourselves aware that we are here to learn. We devote ourselves to scholarship in order to build the intellectual foun- dations for understanding and to search for the absolutes in a world of change. FORWARD '7 I 8 FGRWARD 'Wir' We pursue our education beyond the classroom in those activities defined as culture. Those concentrated doses of society that temper our incivility demanded not always our appreciation, but rather an understanding of our relation- ship within the cultural whole. F I '4u... We are involved as collaborators in the total educational experience. Understanding develops here, too, as student, teacher, and administrator teach one another that each has a contribution to make and that all are bound to common aims and purposes. Emphasis upon our ultimate commitments helps give coordination to our curricula and unity in our diversity. FORWARD 9 gh, 1 0' 'W ua, -. All the elements at work combined to forge com- mitments that vary in intensity and direction. While some focus on crucial issues, others acquiesced in apathy and trivia, comsuming what could have been productive moments. Therefore, involvement is the only way to preserve, to keep from being engulfed in the swift current, drifting from one unlearned experi ence to another. 10 FORWARD naIi E: Then, in a pompous flurry of activity, We end our days in the ivory tower. The Worth of our commitment, direction, and prepara- tion Would be measured by history. 'UW FORWARD 11 ...,.,,,.,,, . Z, , -.1',f,'V1 1'-,'!1,1'1 'VL .,.f'1 1,' 1,1412 - 1 ,lug 1' . ,1'1.'1. The S. O.A. is divided into three branches: the eX- ecutive, the legislative, and judicial. These sepa- rate branches regulate affairs which are of common interest to the students. It is subject however, to final approval of the College Administrative Council The Senate is the legislative branch of the govern- mental hierarchy. It is by this body made up of pro perly elected students under professor advisorship, that a large percentage of campus activities are cul- timated. The judiciary Council composed of a chief and associate justices act as a judicial review on certain school code policies. However, at the sum- mit of the three levels, rides the authority of the ex ecutive post. This year's President, William Tho- mas Biggs, heads a cabinet of five members: judy Floyd, Vice-Presidentg Melody Vetter, Secretaryg Charles Casey, Treasurer, Linda Bean, Chief jus- tice, and Ricky Logue Reporter. :PWC AW lj.. if ,' L fi -'Riff X . X gif 'Q HGIVIECOIVIING 1972 Homecoming '72 sporting a Children's Stories theme, began with the chores of float building and ended with a 98-91 victory over visiting Lee College from Tennessee. Among Homecoming weekend's major activities were an after-game night of fun and frolic, providing you weren't too tired to participate. The girls had no hours and the S. G. A. had planned a full weekend of ex- citement. The community Bowling Alley was rented for the College, a movie in the Chapel, swimming in the pool, and always those private parties of your own mak- ing, helped create a Homecoming that won't be forgotten on this campus for years to come. Elinor Clark, a sophomore from Monterey, Ky. , was elected Homecoming Queen from among 17 girls. She was crowned in the half-time ceremonies before a capacity crowd. ,52- STUDENT LIFE 25 Homecoming Explodes With Sights, Sound As the leaves of fall blanketed the campus, Campbellsville had an outward appearance of slum- ber. However, the peaceful atmosphere belied the outburst of activity which accompanied autumn to the campus. This outburst was witnessed by all as eyes turned toward the bands as they promenade through the streets of downtown Carnpbellsville during the 1971 -72 Homecoming Parade. We just do not have the facilities necessary for the development of art. To be more exact we have no facili- ties Cthe theater is in the Chapel, the music department is in a run-down little house across the way, and poor Mr. Stapp is in the basement of the Chapel fighting for more room and having to hang easels from the ceilingjg there is no such thing as a Fine Arts Center. 24 But let's be proud: self-preservation and dedication have es- tablished and developed art on our campus--art that is fashioned from a sensitive combination of originality and uniqueness, hon- esty in execution and sincerity of expression founded solicitation of emotion, and something significant to say. Pro- fessor of Literature, has been chosen by the students as the college's most popular professor, for the third consec- utive year. A native of the Hills of Eas- tern Kentucky, he earned his A.B. , M, A, Degrees from Georgetown College and has credited graduate study from South- ern Baptist Theological Seminary, West- ern Ky. University, Morehead Univer- sity, and University of Ky. Coming to Campbellsville College in l959, Mr. Hamilton has confirmed his belief in the College by contributing much support. As Daniel Webster said about Dartmouth College 'It is little, but we love it', comments Mr. Hamilton. I don't think of this college as small, but great and I feel God has His hand on this place and is guiding. His hobbies include collecting antiques hymnbooks, phonographs, records, weav- ing looms, and organs to name a few. He has exhibited much of his weaving products and taught weaving during a summer session. His ability to render music from one of his several organs is well known. Mr. Hamilton is married to the for- mer Mildred Woodruff of Georgetown, Ky. He refers to his wife as Blessed and never hesitates to praise her devotion and dedication to him. They have 3 daugh- ters and l son, and 3 grand -daughters. Mr. Hamilton is a sympathetic coun- selor to the many troubled students who seek his help. Students recognize his Christ-centered life and humility as be- ing his most worthy attributes. A reflec- tion of his favorite motto is seen in his life: I shall pass through this world but once, any good therefore I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any hu- man being, let me do it now, let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again. Tom Jeffries, the annual advisor, and his wife, Wanda, are those to whom l feel in- debted for their guidance and direction. Next is the one man who has helped me not only in preparing for this editorship but also led me into the area of journalism and creative writing, L. D. Kennedy. lf not for Dr. D. L. Jester this book would not have been possible to complete. Through his careful guidance and suggestions we were able to raise our budget to cover the fifteen pages of color. A1 Hardy has proven his confidence in the creativity of this annual staff by choos ing this annual to be used for promotion and recruitment of students throughout the state. Douglas Sullivan became general lackey and helped in all areas. l can never repay Larry Troxell for his efforts in persuading me to stick with it and his pro- fessionalism in photography and lay-out design. It was Sylvia Morris who met the mark of excellence in loyalty and encouragement. Our copy and class editors also deserve a very special thanks. Pictures tell our story. Responsible for providing this media is photographer Randy Dill. For the record, various excerpts printed within this book were borrowed from the 1971 MILESTDNE of Eastern Kentucky University at Richmond. - R.
