Q66 QI of HIGH LIGHTS of the Class of 1951 TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Let lt be known that long ago 1n September 47 an unusually green but brill1ant group of 55 scholars CPD entered the halls ofC H S True to our fond parents hopes thls class was outstandmg .Toe Kearnes became presldent Rosa E Rlchardson vxce president Georgia Edwards secretary Cecil Rod gers treasurer and Bonme Baldwln h1stor1an Our future athletxc ablllty was reflected inB1lly B Smlth Doug Jones Joe Kearnes Bobby Bennlngfxeld Guy McAnnelly and C D Miller We chose as our carmvalcandxdates, Bon me Baldwin and Joe Ke9.rn9S Bonme too was chosen as a cheerleader and contlnuedto represent us the entxre four years After a hectlc day of xnltiatlon followed by a strenuous year of work wxth the push and pull of our sponsors Mrs Rxce and Mr Coop we felt entltled to the rank of Sophomore Mrs Deener and Mr Hayes became the prlvileged sponsors of our class in September 48 and wzth the1r wise guxdance we spent a profitable and enjoyable year Smlth Jones and Bennlngfxeld realxzed our dreams by mak mg the f1rst ten in basketball Our cand1dates for carmval kmg and queen were Billy B Sm1th and Barbara Newton we proudly elected Barbara as the queen and gave the seniors tough competltion 1n the kmg race Our year end ed successfully and we said farewell to our sophomore year with a pxcruc at Green Rlver Wlth shxmng faces br1ght m1nds and new determmatxon we began the last half of our steep climb to graduatlon Mrs McKinley led the 35 of us who were Juniors that year Agam our popular cand1dates Bonme and .Toe were Junior representatlves 1n the carmval and agam we had a winner Joe was elected kmgl Th1s same year Joe carried off other honors by maklng the all conference baseball team, and along with C D Miller, the f1rst ten on the basketball team tthat State Tourney qu1ntet remember?J Another honor for our class was the wmmng of the County S011 Conservatlon Contest by Rosa Rxchardson Our play Stranger 1n the Nlght proved our dramauc abrlity and played to a capacxty crowd Time again for another Jr Sr ban quet' For the theme tlus year we used A Dutch Treat wxth decorat1ons ap proprzate to Holland At the end of th1s year we again enjoyed a plcmc at Green Rlver fW1th a few casualtieslj Everyone IS the Archxtect of l-hs Own Destlny was our motto W started our semor year w1th thls thought m mind although sometimes our destiny was a doubt There were only 32 of us left out of the origlnal 55 and several of these were students from other schools who had entered during the four years Mrs Rlce was our sponsor and the followinff offlcers led our class .Toe Kearnes president Chrxstme Smith, v1ce presxdent Rosa Richard son secretary Georg1a Edwards treasurer and Emxhe Dowell hlstorlan Our cand1dates for carmval kmg and queen were Bllly B Smith and Emllxe Dowell with B1lly carrying off the honors of the kmg royalty Several of the sen1or boys made glory for themselves on the baseball team and thxs time we had four boys on the first fxve of the basketball team Smxth Jones Benmng field, and Kearnes McAnnelly also made the fxrst ten th1s year To get in the Christmas spirlt we increased our treasury by selling Christmas cards and Mrs Rice entertamed us wxth a Chrlstmas party at her home After the holldays we started work on our very successful play Be lieve Me Professor m whlch we dlscovered much artistlc talent who does nt remember Madame Yvonne for instance or Rufus, Ir ? Now we are workmg on our annual The Eagle and are looking forward to the Jr Sr banquet The crowmng pomt of our school l1fe IS graduation the goal for which we have worked for twelve long years' A goal always to be remembered and cherxshed in the future!
