T' L f-ag u 'N 4,1-if 4.4- H I G H L I F E of the Class of 50 May 1950 Dear Diary It seems such a short time smce that ominous September morning when slxty three frxghtened freshmen peered susplciously through the big white doors of Campbellsv1lle Hxgh School, and then stumbled hesitatingly into the halls of h1gher learning The wearing of the green xn the form of remark ably huge green hair rxbbons and of appalling green slgns announcing our low ly status during freshman initiation did lxttle to raise our already extremely low morale Our capable sponsors Mrs Evelyn Rice and Mr Paul Coop, helped us to regam our composure however, and our temporarily mute vo1ces returned louder and better than ever before So much better thatwe were able to voice our opxmons m the election of our offxcers Betty Bryan, presl dent Billy Frank Blevins v1ce president, Patsy Miller, secretary treasurer, and Martha Sue Young, h1stor1an Mrs Robinson Young was chosen as our home room mother for that year In denial of our green status we chose blue and gold as our favorite colors and decided to Straighten up and fly r1ght four motto! We then felt ourselves full fledged freshmen and pro ceeded to show the world fwell the rest of the schooll by a campaign to put our carnival queen and kmg candidates, Patsy Miller and Louis Shlpp, on the thronefoh, well, you can t wm every time, but note the last paragraph! and to make Patsy cheerleader Bobby Ray Tomes further honored us by earning a much coveted basketball letter We culmmated the year w1th a rather soggy p1cn1c at Blue Hole fThat s an understatementll O K. then, lt rained lakes and lakes of water and we nearly had to borrow a boat to get homel part of our name isophos a Greek word meanmg WISE, and to lwe down the second part of our name Qmoros meamng foollshl Or was lt the other way around? Perhaps our fa1thful sponsors Mrs Sallle Deener and Mr J R Hayes could best answer that Some sophomores who were proud of their ab1l1ty m Latm mslsted that our motto be Semper Fldells Of course none of the rest of us knew what lt meant but that was all rlght they could always remmd us Our offlcers were Patsy M1ller presldent Betty Bryan vlce presldent Hank Turner secretary Gerald Carroll, treasurer, and Martha Sue Young h1stor1an Our color combmatzon red and whlte and our flower the red rose loudly proclalmed our exxstence Patsy M1ller and Gerald Carroll were our candldates for queen and kmg that year Pat was also our representatlve as cheerleader, and Bobby Tomes and Randall King were demons on the dlamond Cu'cumstances beyond our control prevented us from having a pxcmc and though we spent that year U1 comparatwe quxet, it was undoubtedly profltable and we felt ourselves well prepared to be upperclassmen We burst mto school ln September of 48 wlth a song 1n our hearts and a superiority complex the size of a whale and all because we were upperclass men! Under the sponsorship of Mrs Vlrgxma McK1nley and Mrs Margaret Ashley we began, by choosmg as our motto, Not merely to exist, but to amount to something m life But we weren t going to wait to amount to some thmg, we decided to start rmght then So we elected as our officers Hank Turner, president, Bobby Caulk, vice presldent, Logan Malone, secretary, Hollis Curry, treasurer, and Martha Sue Young, historlan fThe above state ment is not entirely true l O K , so the boys railroaded the election! To further show our superiority, Patsy Miller was elected cheerleader for the third consecutive year, Betty Bryan and Gerald Carroll were our candidates Y Tig fn 6 ll' I ll , , , 'M V ' , . 4 , - . .
