when Dr. Norman A. Wiggins had been president of Cam- bell College for two years, the 1969 PINE BURR pointed to President Wiggins ' dedication to the job; devotion to Campbell College; preoccupation with the welfare of stu- dents and staff; expansion of the College image; leadership at many levels; promotion of good will. The 1972 PINE BURR staff proudly points to an astonis- hing body of evidence to support the accuracy of that earlier assessment. The actual number of major goals projected and attained could have been accomplished on- ly with dedication. These included; a long range campus plan, partially realized in three new residence halls and a park for mobile homes; a long range financial and acade- mic plan partially realized in tremendously improved College assets and in the extension of instruction into tech- nical institutes. Trust Education, Computer Science, and Careers Opportunity Programs; re-affirmation of college accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. President Wiggins has in addition reorganized the admi- nistrative staff of the College, which now includes students on certain faculty committees. His expansion of the image of the College is obvious in greatly increased alumni acti- vity and in the flow of other interested visitors to the cam- pus, who have made possible a swimming pool and a ma- thematics-religion hall. Supporting and complementing President Wiggins at all stages of his achievements is his wife, Mildred Harmon Wiggins, also a 1948 graduate of Campbell. Mrs. Wiggins actively promotes campus beautification and personally welcomes to the community, parents, other distinguished guests, and newcomers to the faculty family. And so in recognition of his singular achievements the year- book staff gratefully dedicates the 1972 PINE BURR to President Norman A. Wiggins.
