Winston Lillington North Carolina The Board of Trustees of an institution may be aptly described as the power behind the throne. Chosen by and representing the Baptist State Conven- tion, Campbell ' s Board owns title to the properties of the college, adopts all operating budgets, passes upon faculty nominations, decides upon future-planning programs and policies, ahd reviews current adminis- trative procedures. Much credit for the spectacular growth in enrollment of 85 per cent in three years and the correspondingly rapid expansion of plant facili- ties is due to the progressive co-operative leadership of Campbells Board during the last few years. Credit for tlie over-subscription by more than $50,000 of the $250,000 goal for plant expansion during the fall of 1956 should go in large measure to tlie generous pledges and active campaigning of the Trustees.

MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT L. H. CAMPBELL If indeed our minds are peopled, like some silent city, with a sleeping company of reminiscences, associations, impressions, atti- tudes, emotions, what happy memories this album of familiar faces and scenes will awaken in after years! How these pages throw the spotlight upon the varied efforts of many glamorous young actors as they strut their parts on the stage of college life! Our thanks to the editors who have depicted for us so accurately and artistically the aspirations, disappointments, and adventures of our days at Campbell. But some say that such drama as we have herein portrayed is based upon unreality. Nevertlieless the rules of success and failure are the same as those that govern in the game of life beyond campus walls, where they play for keeps. Punishments and rewards are just as inevitable. For when the one great scorer Comes to write against your name He ivrites — not that you won or lost — But how you played the game.
