Sopkomore Cia Prophecy Why; hello, Ruth, I haven ' t seen you in years. I am sorry I missed you at homecoming this week-end. ■ ' Hello, Bob: things have surely changed around here, haven ' t they? Who would have thought that in just ten short years we would be riding from Buie ' s Creek to Raleigh on this streamlined bus? It is quite a change over those broken down buses of 1947. Only last year Herbert Morgan bought out the old bus line and installed these new jet- propelled buses. Campbell certainly has grown! There are ten new dormitories, two administration build- ings, a scince building, a new music building, and a new g.ym, and Clyde Wilder, the contractor on the job, tells me that the boy ' s dorm begun in 1946 will soon be finished. Yes, Bob, and the departments have expanded, too. Dr. Bea Douglas is now the assistant English department head. And did you hear that Frances Lynch coached the Campbell basket- ball team that won nation-wide fame at Madison Square Garden? That ' s not all, Roger Williams, Campbell ' s head coach, lead the football team to another victory at the Rose Bowl. Whv, they haven ' t lost a single conference since the Junior College Championship of 1946 ' Speaking of advancement, Ruth, did you notice Ray Oliver ' s new five-story dry goods store on Main Street? I certainly did; he carries a complete line of ladies ' fashions designed by Rhea Brandon. He makes more success with that than he does with his political line. They tell me he has run for ten public offices in the last seven years. Don ' t be so hard on him. Bob, I believe he ' ll make Notary Public this year. Harold Nail is backing him with the Buie ' s Creek Morning Herald and Evening Tribune. By the way, did you see the picture starring Marigold Powell at W. J. Taylor ' s new movie liouse on Foushee Avenue? It ' s grand how she began as secretary to the producer and became a star. I didn ' t see it: I started up, but I met Dr. Sam Jones with his wife and ten children. He insisted that I go to his office and have my throat painted. Anyway, the picture will show in Raleigh soon, I guess. I tliought Billy Stallings was going to be an actor also. What ever became of him ' ? Oh, didn ' t you see him at Bobby Hamilton ' s College Grill? He ' s the new singing waiter there. Is that a portable radio you have, Ruth? I ' m anxious to hear the news from station FROG, Voice of Buie ' s Creek. That ' s the station originated from the old Pearson Moonglow Program. Incidentally, Walter Pearson is commentator. No, I ' m sorry: it ' s just a record player. Have you heard the A Cappella Chorus lately? Of course, they ' ve been in such popular demand that they have never returned from their tour begun in 1947. Bob! Look out the window! What kind of tomatoes are those? They look like pumpkins! Haven ' t you heard of Gordon Connor ' s new chemical farm? He has surpassed Burbank in his development of plants. I ' ll bet you never suspected that he would achieve such great success wlien you graded all his chemistry papers. Who is that sunburned fellow in the seat ahead, Ruth? He looks familiar. Oh, that ' s J. P. Blanton who went on the cattle boat to the Pacific in 1947 and decided to remain as a missionary. After this leave, he will return to the island of Tuba Tuba which ad- joins the island of Tuba Fourba, on which Frances Carter is a Missionary. Oh, yes, I remember, seeing him this morning at the First Baptist Church of Buie ' s Creek, talking to Reverend Bridges. Reverend Bridges is doing wonderful work at the church with tlie assistance of Carolyn Smith, religious educational director. Did you see Wayland Fry kissing all the babies at church this morning? I guess that means he ' s running for sheriff of Moore Count.v again. Shirley Robinson is now the representative for the Dubarry Success Course. Isn ' t that a quaint little home among tlie trees. Ruth? I wonder who lives there. Oh, it ' s darling! The names on the box are Hugh and Hortense Parker. Wliy, here we are in Raleigh already. Time surely does fly when you reminisce. Ruth Wiggins. Robert Barbour. 25
