It is on a subject that we usually don't give much thought to, but Miss Patricia Farkas, Sponror Class Officers would benefit you all in your future years if you could live up to all of its characteristics. It is the subject of maturity. True, we all grow in knowledge, but this alone cannot prevent failure. In order to prevent failure, we must also attain maturity. Maturity encompasses many facets and is comparable to a diamond that is most brilliant when it pos- sesses them all. Maturity is the ability to make decisions and to stand by them, rather than to explore endless possibilities and then to do nothing. Action requires courage and there is no maturity without courage. A mature person refuses to settle for mediocrityg he harnesses his abilities and energies and does more than is expected of him. He would rather aim high and miss the mark, then aim low and make it. May you all lead a happy and successful life, and I wish to express my sincere congratulations and the blessings of God to each and everyone of you-my class of 1964. fx-A-xx , 2 john Melnik-Preridenz Pete Kovalovsky Linda Kassay Nancy Womer Nancy Bozich Vice Preridem Trearuref Secretary Social Chairman THOMAS JOSEPH ABEID Commercial AMBITION: Commercial Teaching ACTIVITIES: Band F .T.A. Season in Review Well Done, Mr. Knapic The Campbell Memorial Red Devils opened with a hard fought game with the Farrell Night Riders. This defensive battle saw the Red Devils lose by the margin of a safety, 8-6. The Chaney Cowboys invaded Memorial Staditun and, in another de- fensive battle, went down to defeat 8-6, the safety again being the deciding factor. In a mud fight at Boardman, the Red Devils lost both the game Q10-Oj and quarterback john jeren, who suffered a concussion. Next, the Red Devils traveled to Hubbard and, after jumping off to a quick lead, the Red Devils faltered and the final score was 28-14 in favor of Hubbard. The Warriors of Brookfield, bent on avenging last year's 54-6 defeat, handed the Red Devils a 14-6 setback. In the first half of the South-Memorial game, the South High team scored 16 points which proved to be the margin of victory as both teams scored 6 points in the second half. In the Homecoming game, Fitch put the damper on a fired-up Memorial team 20-6. Girard did the same thing next week, beating the Red Devils 30-6. A fast East Golden Bear squad handed the Red Devils another loss. Our cross-river rivals, Struthers, handed the Red Devils a 26-0 defeat to end the season. Head Coach john Knapic, called the Dean of Mahoning Valley coaches, is retiring this year after completing twenty-nine years as head coach of the Red Devils. Over the years Coach Knapic has in- sisted on good sportsmanship in all his relationships and his leadership has helped to compile a record of 182 wins, 84 losses and 31 ties. Our congratulations go to Coach Knapicg we wish him good luck in his future endeavors. Resume The Red Devils finished the '63-564 cage season with a 10-8 overall record and a 6-6 record in the Steel Valley Conference. However, five of the S.V.C. losses were by a combined total of 14 points, which proves the game could have gone either way. In the opener against Liberty, the Red Devils paced by Jim Armaline's 17 points, led throughout but faltered in the closing min- utes and lost 49-43. The Red Devils went on a five game splurge by defeating Rayen 45-40, Fitch 47-28, Girard 55-41, Mooney 57-46, and East 58-41. Six-foot six Ed Norfleet sparked the wins against Rayen, Fitch, and Mooney with 19, 14, and 19 points. Joe Kunicki paced MR. DANILOV, Head Coach 96 MR. COSENTINO, Reserve Coach the Devils against Girard by hooping 19 while Dave Gozur led the attack against East with 20 points. Me- morial lost its next two tilts to teams who later battled for the S.V.C. championship. A tall Boardman team defeated the Red Devils 71-56 and a rugged Brook- field quintet edged the Devils 53-52. Fleet's 23 points was the highlight of the Boardman game. After bouncing back with a 65-50 win against North, the superior height of the Chaney Cowboys resulted in a 54-40 setback for Memorial. Next, a determined Hubbard team handed the Devils a 62-59 setback. How- ever, the Red Devils came through in their next outing to defeat arch-rival Struthers 45-59. Rugged Boardman was hardpressed, but defeated the Red Devils in their next game 52-50. Campbell rebounded from this loss by whipping Fitch 57-26 and Girard 63-57. Despite a 4th period bid by the Red Devils, Brookfield outlasted Memorial 69-66 in the next gameg Ed Norfleet taking scoring honors with 21 points. l'Fleetl' meshed 28 points in the next game as Memorial avenged an earlier upset and clipped Hubbard 55-44. Struthers gave Memorial a hard time in their season finale. Fleet poured in 25 markers, but the Red Devils lost 63-58. In tournament play, Memorial drew rugged Chaney and, after making a bid for an upset, were defeated 48-38. Ed Norfleet received post-season honors by being named to the All- Steel Valley first team. Coach Danilov is to be congratu- lated for his fine work in his four yea.:s at the helm of Memorial's cage team. Wie wish him lt ck in the future. Speedster, Don Hamner tied the century mark in 10 seconds flat. Hamner also set a new record by run- ning the quarter-mile in 50.9. The Red Devil's half-mile relay team composed of Manuel Allinos, Zachary Harris, Larry Car- well, and Don Hamner, turned in one of the best times in the state by running the two lap race in 1:31.4. Furthermore, Al Pezzuto set a new school mark in the broad jump with a leap of 22 ft. and Gary Zayac pole vaulted 9 ft. 9 inches for another school mark. The season, however, was not actually completed because of some last minute postponements made by a few pre-scheduled teams.
