Dedication M. F. O'MELLAN PRINCIPAL The graduating classes of 1941 in dedicating this annual to Mr. M. F. O'Mellan, wish to express their appreciation and gratitude for his devotion to the best interests of Memorial High School and to the City of Campbell. Mr. O'Mcllan has been a lifelong resident of this city and has grown up with the present educational system. He began his own school career at the old two-room school house on the corner of Gordon and Twelfth Streets. He attended successively Gordon. Fairview, and Penhale Schools from which he was graduated in 1923. In high school, Mr. O'Mellan engaged in many activities including basketball, track, art and music. After several years of work with the Ohio Bell System, Youngstown Dry Goods, P. Bt L. E. Railroad and Boys Work under the supervision of Mr. Stephen Pronko of the Y. M. C. A. he decided to continue his education. He entered- the Cleveland School of Art. In 1930 he received his B. S. in Ed. and Art Supervision Diploma from Ohio U. After having taught for two years, he was appointed assistant principal, and in 1934 principal of Memorial High School. In 1936 he received his M. IZ. degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Memorial High School is indeed fortunate to have a man of Mr. O'Mellan's leadership and understanding as its head. His close contact with the people of the city throughout his life has served to bring the school and community closer together and to create a more far-reaching understanding of the purposes and aims of Memorial High School. Under Mr. O'Mcllan's leadership and expert guidance, important progress has been made in the following: C11 reorganization of teaching staff into functioning departments 125 curriculums and courses of study C31 equalization of teachers' load through balance of classes Q43 scheduling of teachers in qualified fields CSD modernization of commencement exercises C61 reorganization and expansion of the Home Economics system, industrial and commercial arts f7l development of visual education program Q81 institution of an adequate health program for the protection of children. 1941 REVELER ' 3 ,.
