r is-g . , ai Mr. Misselbrook is always able to hold the interests of his English classes with his English accent alone. The works of the foremost authors and poets are read and discussed, and in addi- tion. periodical book reports are required. Applying what they have learned, English scholars become potential essayists, poets, and short story writers. Perhaps the most prodigious assignment to be met in the junior year is the term paper. And then ar- rives the peak of one's Campbell English career, a subjective presentation of any his- torical topic, the notorious U. S. History term paper. In its completion lies the final step at Campbell, Graduation. The knowledge of English grammar is a big necessity ac- cording to Mr. Tarr. During the course of 'the English programs, students are ex- posed to the mechanics of correct writing, the literature of both England and America, and the various forms of self-expression. Once having acquired a basic comprehen- sion of correct grammar, punctuation, and capitalization, they next endeavor to obtain a broad literary background. Upon this promise, the social studies department of Campbell High contains that part of the curriculum which deals specifi- cally with man in relation to his physical and social environment. Courses offered this year include U. S. History, California Gov- ernment, Senior Social Studies, World Geog- raphy, and Orientation. The program is re- sponsible for developing a knowledge of the ways in which man has met and solved his problemsg for developing an appreciation of the standards and values that have grown out of these experiencesg and for develop- ing the skills and attitudes in human rela- tions which enable him to function in a democracy as an individual and as a con- tributing member of society.
