Wil fat .nkx ffl ll the W0rld s a stage . if . . . upon which the drama of life is presented. Like Jacques in William Shakespeare's comedy, AS YOU LIKE IT, we wish to compare life to a play divided into many acts. For seniors, about to graduate, we feel that the first act is soon to be completed. In order to set the scenes of this past year's drama so that it may not soon be forgotten, appropriate quotations from this work of Shakespeare have been selected. The stage for the performance is the Campbell campus, supporting parts are filled by the classes of 1961, 1962, and 1963, leading roles are enacted by the seniors, and the entire production is under the direction of the faculty and administration. We hope that you, our audience and our critics will find this presentation to be just AS YOU LIKE IT. aw , , x A 4 ,XXL Q 1 qs KS-'ah an sr, as K 67,5 1 is it X 0 I is fb N 'Xa sf' 1 - M 'N-'bf QW Q2 M W fa fi 5 M XD, ,www T g Jx w1 yimzjgkwalf' QIONT QC guy S en f Academic gf W Activities NSIRSJ 1, f Sports CQQUNZ5 fb M Underclassmengi Vwjl 87 Sf Seniors 109 Wgfggii QV f Mrs. Marian Winston M ,3 ' 4 'ff if Z mf - f Aw .,1. . f. Because hers is a behind-the-scenes production, she works quietly and without fanfareg but wherever she goes, she leaves her mark-a job well done, The duties which she performs com- pose a long and varied list which include such responsibilities as the decorations for school dances, and the sets for plays, variety shows, and other productions which are erected by students under her guidance. Left: always willing to aid students in the difficulties they meet in certain projects. Below: Taking time out to answer phone, is just one of the things that keeps Mrs, Winston always on the job. H ' -J 5. .., . c X K 9 art director Perhaps her favorite responsibility is working with the Art Honorary Society, which she established at Campbell, and also when she prepares for the Emporium Show in San Francisco each yearg she is as eager and enthusiastic as any of the students, In each of her duties she always gives her fin- est efforts, and charms all who know her with her quick solutions, her calmness in the face of a difficult situation, and her enthusiasm for all she undertakes. In view of her incomparable service to Campbell, we, the Class of 1960, dedicate our ORIOLE to Mrs. Marian Winston. Mrs, Winston pauses with john O'Hara to take a overall look at their progress on the scenes for the Variety Show. During the course of 'the English programs, students are ex- posed to the mechanics of correct writing, the literature of both England and America, and the various forms of self-expression. Once having acquired a basic comprehen- sion of correct grammar, punctuation, and capitalization, they next endeavor to obtain a broad literary background. Men qf letters verbalize E 7 W M mm, fr .MM There never seems to be a dull moment with Mr. Jones in his journalism classes. Mrs. Jennings interrupts the discus sion of Shakespeare, to tell of her appearance on the Jack Lalane Show. r is-g . , ai Mr. Misselbrook is always able to hold the interests of his English classes with his English accent alone. The works of the foremost authors and poets are read and discussed, and in addi- tion. periodical book reports are required. Applying what they have learned, English scholars become potential essayists, poets, and short story writers. Perhaps the most prodigious assignment to be met in the junior year is the term paper. And then ar- rives the peak of one's Campbell English career, a subjective presentation of any his- torical topic, the notorious U. S. History term paper. In its completion lies the final step at Campbell, Graduation. The knowledge of English grammar is a big necessity ac- cording to Mr. Tarr. Upon this promise, the social studies department of Campbell High contains that part of the curriculum which deals specifi- cally with man in relation to his physical and social environment. Courses offered this year include U. S. History, California Gov- ernment, Senior Social Studies, World Geog- raphy, and Orientation. The program is re- sponsible for developing a knowledge of the ways in which man has met and solved his problemsg for developing an appreciation of the standards and values that have grown out of these experiencesg and for develop- ing the skills and attitudes in human rela- tions which enable him to function in a democracy as an individual and as a con- tributing member of society. This year the Student Council has been trying to establish closer relations with our two sister schools of the district, Del Mar and Camden. In March, the Council sponsored a school-wide Clean-Campus campaign, with competition between the two lunch hours. A second project was the re- vision of our Constitution. After a thorough study, it was found that in many places the Constitution was not only unclear, but also ambiguous, It was decided to revise it, for greater practicality. Varieyf qf entertainment replaces morning school work Presenting varied and interesting assem- blies. ranging from the laugh-provoking to the serious, was the successfully attained goal of the School Affairs Commission. The Marine Band and our own dance band, the Saints. provided an entertaining hour of musical uplift, A more pensive mood was created by a talk from Representative Gubser to the Seniors, and another from the three foreign exchange students in our district. The Christmas play, inspiring and fanciful, reflected the joys and good-will of the coming season. The junior plays, and our exchange assembly with Del Mar also helped make 9:00 and 10:00 the oases in a desert of morning schoolwork. 'fmiff' V ,,,Mw- V f A V. , 1 !
