As 1957 draws to a close we find the following names heading the list of the most-talked-about personages of '57. The Metropolitan opened the 1957 season with two outstanding songsters. They have become known from coast to coast as The Broadway Crooners, Opal Keck and Betty Kouba. Big news was made when the missionary, Doris Force, saved thousands from death in China as the Yangtze River overflowed its banks. Miss Dorothy Ann Wormwood has gone from skating on the sidewalks of her old home town to skating in the Ice Follies. Quite an achievement, Miss Wormwood. . Do you remember the day the Atomic Energy Experiment Building was blown to pieces by the brilliant scientists, Keith Raitt, Dale Kenitzer, and Howard Tanner? That's an event to be remembered. Richard Clark should be mentioned as an athlete who made basket ball history this season. He is given credit for being the only white man ever to play ball with the famed Globe Trotters. The talk of the country last Iune was the wedding of Miss Roma Under- wood to Mr. Donovan Beagle, after ten long years of courtship. Believe it or not, Miss Christel lessen has taken over I. Edgar Hoover's iob as head of the F. B. I. Miss Nancy Gates established her Broadway Sewing Shop this year where she sews for the glamorous model, Iune Hendricks. Patty Addison and Donald Adams made news this season when they co- starred in The Redhead. Have you heard the new radio show Larry's Lectures ? This is a series of talks given by Larry Gilbertz. The famous veterinary, Dr. Iean Cole, has found a new cure for cow co1ic. He calls it Cole's Cow Collic Cure. ' The picture of school teacher Vera Hola appears on all the front pages. She has discovered a way of punishing children without exerting any effort. Gertrude lessen Clark made the headlines when she flew to Home, Italy last August to attend a game played by the famous Globe Trotters. Dean Iones and Bill Tyrrell surprised and shocked the world when they contributed their share in a concert at Carnegie Hall. Charles Frederick has obtained the position as the new butler in the White House. Doris and Bill snyder purchased the Skyways Taxi. They have em- ployed Iim McManamen as a pilot. Urban Groves won the world championship for bronc riding in Madison Square Garden on Iuly 4. Betty Kuzma and Iosephine Magnusson are the newest addition to the World Symphony Orchestra. ' The engagement of Society Queen, Miss Billie Lee Moore, to the Crown Prince of Austria, has caused much comment. Miss Moore has been traveling abroad for the past year.
