CANOE TRIP Here come Judy and Clarice with the food! Put the basket into Cheg's canoe: get an extra back-rest. Now we're about ready to leave. Head up, Helenz feather your paddle, Percy: arm straight, Carol! come the familiar commands, and We're off on that Tuesday water jubilee, the canoe trip. This looks like a perfect camping-ground. There's Harriette with a tomato and a steak in one hand, a brownie and a marshmallow in the other, attempting with some difliculty to eat them all at once. A sudden breeze unexpectedly sweeps across the lake, and we see the rain clouds piling up. Beach your canoes, girls, Jean is saying, as the girls begin to fear for their precious knitting. Ooh, but the water is coldl as Whiz and Claire have just discovered, Fuzzy in her haste having overturned the canoe as she was getting out. All is well as we sturdy paddlers arrive home, in unanimous agreement that we have made the merriest and most unusual canoe trip of the season! Wednesday's child likes best to dance, She dreams of Senior Night Romance. SENIOR NIGHTS iiDATES ON OUR CALENDAR Wednesday, July 10-Here they come! Tall, dark, hand- some, blond and otherwise. From Cayuga, Schroon Lake, Paradox and Pine Tree, all ready to start our parade of Wednesday Senior nights. Saturday, August 10-Just in time for Wakonda's big Tlx show, The Front Page, after which Beulah ex- - temporaneously obliges with a song. And so home in the pouring rain, where Mr. Chankin greets us with our rain-clothes. Friday, August 16-Cayuga's prom-a night club with tables for four and a dashing floor-show. We watch Natalie dancing with the good-looking master-of-ceremonies, and notice the grand rush Lucille S. is getting. The twins confuse the males as to their identity until Mrs. Chankin asks us to say good-night. Sunday, August 18-At Schroon Lake Camp we watch with awe their superla- tive production of Submerged. We notice Lou P. dancing with her ole faithful and Frankie trying to decide with which of the eager men to dance, until we see that certain look in Mrs. Chankin's eye which means HomeI Thursday, August 23-Our last trip, to Camp Paradox, where we are enter- tained by the Seniors' acting and the Seniors' and the councillors' dancing. We watch Shirley and a Paradox guest doing those intricate Fred Astaire steps and listen to Jean sing Ramble Over to Rondackf' Then, adieu at last, not only to Paradox but to a joyous summer of Senior Ckj nights as well.

CAMPFIRE Mona'ay's child loves Campfires light, Its Indian lore and tribal rite. By the quiet Schroon Lake waters, By the peaceful council-fire, Sat two teams. the Ron, the Dack, Sat two teams in peace and silence, Swore an oath of sportsmanship For the coming summer season. X There by Schroon Lake's silvered waters Met four tribes in utter silence. K Chippewa-thus named the sky tribe, Wa-wa-te-see for the fire-fly, Onondaga for the sun, And Oneida for the bluebird. There they met and sang their songs. Met again in peace and reverence, Offered up their tribal prayers, Prayed the winds to bring them blessings, Prayed to lightning and to thunder. Met once more and spoke their legends, Told how out of total darkness, The tribes of which they then were members Took their names, their evolutions. Met again in festive mood, Challenged each in competitions, Testing strength, and testing skill, Peting thus their first full moon. Assembled there another evening, Dancing to the tom-tom beating, Showed to all their tribal dances, Offered dance up to the moon. Met there for the final campnre, Offered tribal sacrinces. Offered that which they held dearest, Smoked the council pipe of peace, Symbol of eternal friendship.
