-- - ' Virginia Rosencrans, a newcomer to the screen, did a remarkable piece of work as the gentle, dignified lVleg, and Shirley Greene was excellently cast as Beth. Frances M .lVolfsie was a truly handsome and gallant Laurie, who knew just how to wheedle the rather tempera- mental Amy of Frances Block, with that Come now, do be a good girl. Who can forget the sensational entrance of Nanny Chankin as Nlarmee? She had ' everything on that hat but Rondack's pine trees, and the remarkable gravity of her face simply increased the laughter. Nor must we forget to recommend Harriette Slote for more character parts. She made a perfect Hannah, with a brogue more Irish than a New York policeman. You'll find these Rondack Little lVomen a great big hit. Dutch Daingf COMING A'1'TRACTIONS Be sure not to miss the grand premier of .- Dutch Doings which comes to the Rondack Flay- X house on July 15. Claire De La Lzme A MUSICAL COMEDY Ladies and Gentlemen, you are about to witness a spectacular experiment! The Rondack Research Laboratories have just perfected an immense new lens, and so powerful is it that we hope to photograph a moving picture of the Moon! Be patient for a moment, folks, as the camera is now being focused on the rising Nloon. 54

she guesses it-a fantastic to amuse her on her birthday. Excellent work there, Frances! Your cue, Muriel VVolfsie. As chamberlain you greet the Infanta. Fine. Hold that dignified attitude. Now you lead in the fantastic. All right-the song and dance to amuse her. Remember, Audrey, you love the Infanta and would make her laugh! She throws you a rose before she leaves. Now, the big moment! The vain courtier, Helene, has uncovered the mirror. You, the ugly fantastic, see yourself. Register all the anguish of heartbroken little dwarf, as you die! Audrey, that's real acting! Now, lnfanta, all your hauteur in the curtain line. 'I-lenceforth, let those who come to play with me have no heart!' Congratulations, everybody! This production will pack the theatres. Little Women MIDNIGIIT FANTASY Special repri1ztf1'om july iffue of Screen Storieru-filly 22, 1934 M Two new summer releases were shown last night to an enthusiastic audience in a special pre-view at the Rondack Playhouse. jot this down on your list of things to see at your local theatre. lVlidnight Fantasy is the perfect curtain-raiser. Two portraits-Nliss 1734 and Miss 1934-meet in several delightful moments of humor and naTvet6. Natalie Sobol appears here in hoop skirt and rufiie, for all the world like the sweet old-fashioned valentine she describes to her great grand-daughter. And Mabel Fisher! In spite of that svelte evening dress Cwhich made the Freshies gasp with wonder and awej she went right on punning- Snow again, grandma, I didn't get your drift! You can imagine the hilarious complications in dialogue as the two endeavor to understand each other. Class it as an A-1 short. It was a thoroughly old-fashioned evening, and that sophisticated Rondack audience just loved it! They were simply captivated by Little YVomen. YVatch Carol Lewis. She's the new Hepburn. Cr-r-ristopher Columbusll' She might have stepped, curly-headed and vivacious, gentle and brusque, right out of the pages of the book, 53

Willy, this is strange. There is our own famous professor Eleanor Linder, author of 'Obey That l'mpulse,' leaving for the Moon. Who is that charming Claire de la Lune he's talking to? She looks amazingly like our own Claire Kulok of the Earth. Alia! They have very earthy problems, too, it seems. There's the image of Betty Mann telling Claire, 'Nly Darling Daughter, You Really Oughter' marry the rich Professor. Look! There are the milkmen of the Milky YVay. 'It's Great to Be a Nlilkman' evidently, for Claire seems to be in L' love with one, and are we 'lunyl too, or isn't he Edna Kadin? 'WVhy, they grow Petunias on the lVloon, too, the professor- hunting variety, it seems, for this most Florence Robbins- looking Petunia, is certainly making the professor run rings around the Moon. W'ell, we guess you never knew that lVIoon- beams were so pretty, or sang and danced so well, did you, or that stars gossiped so busily? Ah, there he is himself, The Man in the Moon, Claire's father Cdoesn't he remind you of Sonya Benjamin?j arriving at the crucial moment, just as Claire is about to marry the Professor . . . The de la Lunes are 'in the money' now, real Moonlight Nlillionaires, and as for the happy double-wedding, all's well that ends well on the Nloon, too! 'Red Riding Hood AN ANIMATED CARTOON Wlalt Dizzy has certainly outdone himself in this newest of his animated color cartoons, 4'Little Red Riding Hood. YVe understand that the dainty little White-robed fairies who opened the story were posed for by Selene, Gloria, Claire, Dorothy, and Betty. Little Red Riding Hood herself seemed to walk right out of the story-book. By the way, we understand that Rochelle lVIeisel was NValt's in- spiration for this character. The lrVoodcutters' Chorus which followed was a beautiful bit of synchronization and color photo- graphy. The voice of the Big Bad VVolf did sound like Annette Kaufman's, but that Wolf seemed much too real to be just a little camper. As for the music-the Wfoodcutters' Chorus, the Fairies' Song, the Wolf's Song-well, we are still humming theml Yes, Red Riding Hood is undoubtedly the latest and best of VValt Dizzy's cartoons. We mustn't forget to mention the stage show, Dreams For Sale, which ac- companied the cartoon. The Freshie Symphony was there, too, with a bang!-and the Freshie actors were thoroughly charming. After you see this grand musical number you,ll want to buy all your dreams from Bunks 9 and lO. l 5 5
