On Location at the Romlfzck Studio Uncle Sazmfr 51' oyfloop Hello, is this the hfiarapount Studios? Let me speak to the boss. This is the production scout calling. Yes, Fve just found a wow of a Fourth of July show. Uh-huh. At Rondack. Gee, it had everything we want-colorful scenery, costumes, witty lyrics, eccentric dances. W7hat,s that? 0h yes, I have contracts prepared for the entire cast in their original parts. Wre must have Ruth Altschul as Uncle Sam and Eleanor Linder as the little girl Betty who visits his Fourth of July Toyshop. Those two red-nosed, lovesick Jumping Jacks, Isabel Horowitz and Jean Field, would make a hit in that number 'If I Could VVin a Fire-cracker Doll., l think we need those three Firecracker Dolls, too, don't you F-Lucille Simon, Carol Lewis, and Edna Kadin. Wihat's that? Yes, there's a balloon doll act that Sonya Benjamin did very well. And of course we want the Pop, VVhiz and Bang Clowns. Wre can save the blocks for the climax. Sure, live blocks spelling out HURRAH, FOURTH OF JULY in a tricky alphabet song and dance. And what a finale, boss!-the tin soldiers in technicolor, with the whole cast singing 'Tramp- ing Feet in the Toyshop hleet' to the rhythm of 'The Beat of My Heartl' 'What was that? Oh, no! Wie can't have them until the fall. The whole cast is already signed up at Rondack for the summer. The Tirtbday Qi the Infamm THROUGI-I A DIRECTOR,S MEGAPHONE I Im I All right nowl Everyone on the set for the Birthday ofthe Infanta. Cameras! Lights! Well begin with the roving minstrels to give the spirit of 16th century Spain. The monkish costumes will be very effective. Now let's have that graceful opening minuet by the court attendants, slow and stately. The Infanta interrupts here, imperiously and petulantly. Cutl. Good work, Frances Richman. That's it, Fay Nlerson. You, the Duchess, rebuke her for actually wanting to play on her birthday, like other children. You tell her of a surprise. Good! She grows curious and demanding.
