12 ip Camp Nawalewa I Senior Girls On a hot July afternoon more than 200 girls arrived at Nawakwa for the I Sen- ior Girls' Camp. It did not take long for them to register and get settled, and by 4:30 they had their first dip and were already feeling li'ke campers. The first day was a busy one getting acquainted with cabin mates and showing Nawakwa to the new girls, and at 10:15 they were ready for taps to blow. On IfVednesday morning the program really got started. Mornings were filled by classes and assembly, afternoons by games, tribal meetings, and swimming, and evenings by study hall, I-Iillside, and night's doings. It was a busy Week and an i'nteresting one, and the girls entered it with a will. They also found time for extra activities, such as choir, choral speaking groups, and crafts. The girls proved to be good students, but they also enjoyed a good time, and in the evening the camp rang with echoes of their laughter and shouting. One night a scavenger hunt provided an evening's entertai'nment, and another night the girls cooked their supper on the trail. Chal- lenge night was something new and dif- ferent, and there was plenty of fun i'n tribal challenges to feats of skill or nonsense. Saturday night found the girls all dressed up for a Rodeo party and boisterous games. Monday night found the camp at Council Circle where the girls produced some of the season's finest stunts. Some of them were funny Cthe poor facultylj, but others were serious and quite impres- sive. Indian Scout provided tribal points for each Indian that could be captured and brought to the assembly hall, and a dog show featured many laughs. A swim- ming meet caused plenty of excitement on Thursday night, and most of the camp- ers enjoyed a dip after the meet. One of the highlights of the week was the K.P. stunt which featured the first perform- ance of the K.P. Symphony Orchestra. With the help of a garbage can, kitchen ware, and lots of good humor, the K.P.'s presented encore after encore. A A.D. 2000 party gave a legitimate excuse for wild imaginations, and the camp closed with a high council fire on Sunday night. Monday morning found the girls packed and sitting along the side of the road waiting to go home. There were a few tears here and there and many calls of Good-bye, see you next yearf' Behind them were two wonderful weeks at the Camp in the W'oods-two weeks that were full of fun, work, and inspiration. Ahead of them was a winter of many op- portuniti'es to make use of the training they had received. -:4-:':- r:1:3:-.Ig,:,3.:.:.:1.5-'-:::,j' ' 3.,.:.g..g.g.sx:-:-.- .'-X 'qgegzgx-.:.:.:.:..:.:: -: - :- j:f ' -.::5::: -.5353N:1f:ff5:f:2S'2:-'T:w:51:- t-:-:-:-:-2-:-zz:-:wg uv -.'-+9--1-:c-:fcgm-' tes N-:-:+?:-:-vga.-. - gig:-.ky ':.g.:.-. Yearbook I nterm ediate B oys I am an Intermediate Boy. I just came home from Camp Nawakwa, and it seems awfully quiet around here. There doesn't seem to be much to do except play ball or go to the movies. Now I like to play ball and go to the movies a lot, but I even get tired of that after awhile. I wish I were back at camp again. It's different at Nawakwa. There's always something to do-all sorts of things in fact. There're games or swim- ming or night's doings or bull sessions during rest period or even classes and I-Iillside. It's funny about classes and Hi'llside. The fellowsiat home say XfVhy do you go to camp where you have school every day? or I wouldn't go to camp where I had to go to church every night. Those fellows don't know though. They don't know how it feels to sit on the top of the hill and worship with a bunch of boys who are real boys or to listen to a man preach who's a better pitcher than you are. There's nothing sissy at Na- wakwa. That's for sure. They don't know about those classes either. They don't know how good a discussion can be when all the fellows get into it. Yes,.I like the classes and I-Iillsides at camp. Afternoons are always fun too. You don't have to look all over the place to lind enough guys to play a game. They're there-plenty of them. And you can play lots of different things. That Mr. Sheck- art-I like him. I-Ie's got lots of tricks up his sleeve. Then there's always swim- ming. That pool sure is neat since they fixed it. I remember the day a certain counselor got an unexpected dip in it. I-Ie sure was a good sport. I wonder if I would have been. Well, I would have tried 'cause most of the other boys seemed to be, and I don't want to be different. That fourfold life they keep talking about seems to be a good idea. A one- fold life or a' twofold life sure can get dull, but it was never dull at camp. I'm not going to tell anybody, but I think I'll try that fourfold stuff this winter. There are lots of things we did there that I can do at home too. It's funny, but every- think seems like more fun when you do all sorts of things, even the things you think you don't like very much like study- ing and stuff. Mom says camp's good for me. Well, I don't mi'nd it being good for me as long as it's so much fun. I sure hope I can go again next summer.
