Yearbook I 9 . Junior Girls What are you doing, Ann? 'Tm making a bracelet out of gymp, Jane. It's lots of fun. I learned todo it at Camp Nawakwalast summer. , You are always talking about that camp. Was it really so much fun? It certainly was. I hardly can wait until it is time to go back again. We did so many wonderful things. I heard that you had classes every morning. That doesn't sound like much fun. ' ' It i's though. We had one course called I Believe where we studied our faith. Another course was crafts. That is where we learned to make these bracelets. We made other things of wood, shells, and plastic. I painted a tray for Mother too. Our nature classes were also lots of fun. We talked about the many things God made at Nawakwa, and we took field trips to find samples. We also went on a snake hunt and found a live black snake and several snake skins. Our fourth class was swimming, and Margie really was pleased with usiwhen one hundred girls passed swimming tests I' Maybe I would like those classes What else did you do? In the afternoon we have a rest pe 11Od and tribal meetings Then we have the rest of the afternoon for swimming and games I learned to play deck tennis last summer Next summer we are going to get a set and play at home too I think I like the evening best at camp After dinner and choir practice we have Nights Doings Each night it 1S some thing different and Betty Mae really has some good ideas Last summer we had an animal hunt, games on the athletic field stunts and even a party on Satur day night One night we went out on the trail and cooked our own supper We were the first group to get our fire built After nights doings we have r Hillside Service Often we have it at Upper Temple It 1S quite a hike to get theie but jane it 1S so beautiful that I wish you could see it Dr Hoover was our chaplain and he spoke to us in a way that we could understand easily If vou like it so much Ann, it must be special Do you think I could go with you next year? I decided to write to see if you will be there too. I certainly hope that you will be because we had so much fun last summer. Do you remember the night that we had the Christmas party? I never heard of Christmas in July before, but it was lots of fun. It made me wonder how Na- wakwa would look in December covered with snow. The Sheckarts really have some good ideas. Do you remember the night we played Indian Scout and the night we had the animal hunt? The scavenger hunt was fun too, but we had a terrible time finding five different colors of nail polish. Thanks to Marty Laird and Marjorie Slee we finally found them. Sometimes when I get awake early in the morning, I like to lie in bed and remember how lovely camp is at that time of day. I think about how still and beautiful it is during Morning W'atch. The sunlight comes through the trees in rays that look like paths leading to heaven, and the birds sing beautifully. It is a wonderful way to start a day, and I have tried to have Morning W'atch each morning at home. Of course, I can't go out and sit under a tree, but I sit at my window and read my Bible and pray. I am very glad that we started that habit at camp. Wlieii I first came home from Na- wakwa our meals seemed to be very quiet. I missed all the songs that we sang for fun. Now I am accustomed to it again, but I am looking forward to getting back and singing Tell Me VVhy and some of our other favorites., Did .you know that many of our coun- selors were graduated from II Senior Girls in August? Walida was the class president, Jean, the vice president, and Betty Lou the treasurer. Marjori'e Clay- ton wrote the class song, and it was printed in the bulletin on the night of graduation. I wonder if our senior class will be as fine as theirs. I do hope that you are planning to go back next summer, Linda. I will be wait- ing to hear about your plans.' Love, MARY.
