I 1 1 CLASS HISTORY As graduation draws nearer and nearer, it is hard to realize that next fall we, the Class of '55, will not be returning to dear old C.L.H.S. It seems such a short time ago that we were frustrated Freshmen, eager and willing to learn and participate in all the school activities. Mark Haney was our president, and with the aid of Mrs. Keeler, our sponsor, we all had a wonderful year. In our Sophomore year we settled down and really began to get in the swing of high school activities. A number of us were on the athletic teams, and four of our classmates became Probationary members of the National Honor Society. We sponsored the Saint Patrick's Day dance, and everyone agreed it was one of the most successful dances held at Camp School. Mr. Aman and Mark Haney led us through another delightful year of achievements. Our Iunior year passed swiftly. Mrs. Dunkle was our capable advisor the first semester, but due to transfer, she had to leave us. Mrs. O'Brien took over, and did a grand job of it. Our main worry as Iuniors was raising money for the Junior-Senior Banquet. We were fortunate enough to get part of the profits from the ice cream concession. After months of worrying, planning, and working, the day of the Prom finally arrived. We feasted scrumptiously on a banquet prepared by the Camp Cafeteria, and danced till all hours to the excellent music of the famed Collegians. Our many thanks to Mrs. Finley, Miss In- gram, Mr. Roach, and Mr. Cohen for their help in making this dance such an impressive and memorable occasion. We started our Senior year off by welcoming our new sponsor, Mr. Morton, and also electing our president. You guessed it! Mark Haney was our choice again! The excitement of ordering our rings and invitations, electing the Annual and Newspaper Staff, selecting the Senior play, and TRYING to find time to study had us all in a daze. Although our class has dwindled during these four years, due to the coming and going of many of our friends, our Senior class of fourteen has been successful in all the ventures undertaken this year. It's been hectic at times trying to divide all the things that need to be done among our small classy many of us have been constantly working on several ventures at once, fighting Macbeth, struggling over themes: but we've finally reached our goal, and as we look back over the years, We know we've loved every minute of it and it was Worth it all. MICKEY PEELE Historian cr JZW cg x 7, 'A , Q N f t ,GD T 'ffl 1 LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT WE, the Senior Class of Camp Lejeune High School, in the county of Onslow, and the State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and body, do hereby make the following bequest: To Mr. Barringer, we leave the dear old North State. To Mr. Morton, we leave Macbeth Cgladlyll. To Mr. Durr, we leave mentally deficient Seniors who can't talk back. To the Junior Class, we leave the Senior's broken-in lockers. To the Sophomore Class, we leave our ability to skip classes. To' the Freshman Class, we leave the wonderful high school days that are ahead of them. We, as individuals, do bequeath and bestow our many possessions and abil- ities thus, to Wit: I, Mark Allen, leave my terrific??? football ability to future teams of Camp School High. l, Bruce Burnette, leave my gold teeth to Bob Salisbury. l, Lillian Cohen, leave in a puff of smoke. l, Sada Ann Cox, will my ability to pick up a man at any time to Ruth Dietz. I, Herb Hawkins, will my one good knee to Don Baker. I, Barbara Hays, will my ability to TRY to collect taxes to the future Secre- tary of the Treasury. I, Ruth Loper, will my red hair to the heating system-it needs something hot. I, Bob Lyons, will my ability to complete high school a year ahead of the scheduled time. I, Anita Franks Nine, will my ability to catch a husband to Barbara Murray. I, Iohn O'Brien, will my ability to keep calm in a trying situation to Susie Davis. l, Ronnie Pappas, will my ability to take a social drink to Eleanor Biffle. l, Mickey Peele, will my ability to get into so many organizations to my sister, Dap, and I hope she finds time to do all that is required of her. I, Mark Raney, will my stuttering to Tommy Herndon. ik I, Vera Rogers, will my marriage vows to Iudy luhan. di' l, Paul Schnell, will my reputation at the school to anyone who's man enough to uphold .it. I, lim Yates, will my U. S. History book to anyone who's fool enough to take it. ln witness whereof, we the class of '55 hereunto subscribe our names and fix our seals this first day of Iune, in the year of Our Lord, one thousand nine hundred and fifty-five. Rogers Little America Colony, Alaska Dear Vera: I received your letter and was very happy to hear that you and the twins are getting along fine in spite of the cold weather Bob Lyon a preacher of all things. I always It doesn't seem like ten years since we made the class prophesy, but I do think it is a good idea J . to exchange notes on the present positions v of our graduate class. ' ff' I could hardly believe my ears when you said .- ' 5, that Stinkie, Paul Schnell, was now head of the X C f FBI. Who would have believed it back in high f RA , I school when he was always getting into so Q 'E' ,fe much trouble? I J' .f pictured him as a stock car racer, a jet pilot or some- Q93 thing like that-but never a preacher It was a stroke of good luck when you ran into Mickey on her way to Alaska. I'll bet you were surprised. I can't imagine her and her four little sailors accompanying her husband on long ocean voyages. It must be a thrilling experience for her. I met Ronnie when I went to visit the folks in New York for a weekend. She is doing quite well, I'd say, by the looks of her '65 Cadillac and penthouse apartment. Yes, she asked me up to tea, and I learned a lot about a few other members of our class. Lillian Cohen is in New York working as a Power's model. Ron said that Lil turned down a contract with M.G.M., just because they wouldn't star her with Howard tWallerJ Curtis, the famous star of stage and screen. And Barbara Hays, you'll never believe it, she is the President's own secre- tary at the White House. Iim Yates married Pat Hancock, and they are now living in Morehead City. They have three boys and are expecting another in October. They visit us quite often. lim told me that Mark Allen is a disc jockey at Morehead City. You can turn on his program anytime during the day and hear Ruth Loper, the red headed hill-billy rage of the nation and her latest hit, The Iohnny Now Boogie. That boy spins the bop from dawn to dusk. Iim received a letter from Iohn O'Brien not too long ago. It seems that Iohn is now a successful Nuclear Engineer in Philadelphia. I I'm glad you asked about Sada Cox. I haven't heard from her since gradua- tion, but I did read an article about a year ago in LIFE where she has been do- ing some wonderful work as a missionary nurse in Iapan. Herb Hawkins and Bruce Burnette are right here in Leieune with us. Herb is a Naval dentist here. I went to the dispensary last Monday to get a tooth pulled, and who did I see sitting in the dentist's chair, but lst. Lt. Burnette. He is coach of the Devil Dogs now. He lost another tooth when he got hit by a football while coaching. All you have to do is turn on your TV to know what Mark Raney is doing. Ever since he started running for Congress this year, he has been filibustering on all TV stations. I think that answers most of your questions, and just about covers our grad- uate class of '55. I will have to close for now and feed the kids. Our little trailer is slightly overcrowded now, and Bob is off on another cruise. I am expecting him home around the first of the year.
