,., in ' The Board of School Directors is shown in the above picture. The members, in the usual order, are: Mr. William E. McClure, president of the H. B. McClure Company, Mr. P. O. Van Ness, executive secretary of the Pennsylvania State School Directors' Association, Mr. R. T. Grim, owner of Grim's Radio and Appliance Repair Shop, Mrs. Thomas Polk, mother and housewife, Mr. H. P. Cowley, consulting engineer for Gatter and Diehl. Mrs, Frances B. Baker, employee of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Mr. William A. Fenical, secretary and business manager for the school district. The school board is a quasi-corporation whose sole purpose is to establish the educational po- licies for Camp Hill's schools under Pennsyl- vania's school laws. The Board of School Directors determines the educational policies that will be used by the school district. It is a responsibility of the school district to select teachers, to provide for the fi- nancing of the school program, and to evaluate periodically the outcomes of the education pro- gram. Camp Hill was incorporated as a borough on September 15, 1885. The original high school building was constructed in 1907 on the present site. Additions to this building were made in 1915, 1920, and 1938. A new building was erected in 1952 on the same site, retaining the 1938 addition. ln 1956 further additions were made and plans are now in progress for an addition to be completed in 1959. Camp Hill High School offers a large variety of courses. lt is one of the more progressive schools in central Pennsylvania. A great per- centage of its alumni has been successful in vari- ous professions and vocations. Our school's val- ue as an effective educational institution has been due to the cooperation of the Board of Edu- cation, administration, faculty, student body, and residents of the community.

lt has been our aim to assist each of you to grow to your maximum capacity. As you be- gin life beyond high school use this growth to do good to mankind, for a man's true wealth is the good he does in this world. Graduation from high school does not con- clude our interest in you. Our services are al- ways available to assist with your progress toward desired goals. We encourage you to keep us informed of your development as your successes and failures are evaluated in terms of our contribution to your high school training. We congratulate you for the successes of the past and challenge you to accept commence- ment as the beginning of a period of more in- tensive and specific experiences which will fur- ther prepare you for worthwhile living. E.. Commencement, 1959, comes in the midst of a great national and international crisis. ln other lands civilization seems to be breaking up-a condition which serves to bring us to a new realization of lust how precious to us is the American way of life. The best answer to this challenge is national strength. lf our problem is to secure greater na- tional strength through greater individual strength, education is the answer. A well-edu- cated nation is a strong nation. An intelligent, enlightened citizenship is better able to meet shock and strain. lf the nation needs greater moral and spiritual reserves, then it needs our greater reserves of these factors. As you depart from the portals of this school may I commend to you the following: First, de- velop an intense desire to succeed, Second, plan carefully and minutely the path to the goal for which you are heading, Finally, be content to establish a firm foundation for each future posi- tion and to make haste slowly. Fulfill each position as if your life depended upon it but at the same time keep in mind the necessity of seeking larger and broader opportunities. May I wish success and good luck to each mem- ber of the Class of 1959.
