Today we have those who comprise the Senior Class of 1939. The years have passed in a whirl of events-for some quickly, for others slowly. After going passively through seventh and eighth grades with only the usual class hikes and parties occur' ring, we embarked upon the vast store of knowledge awaiting us as inexperienced Freshmen. Then finally we were accepted as Sophomores into the incomparable Senior High School. Alas, we became entangled in the high school extra- curricular activities which were vaguely confused from time to time with splotches of homework. The Sophomore year was opened with a class hike and later a class play was presented just before the- Christmas holidays. During this tenth year we were kindly invited to participate in the school dance given for all the C. H. H. S. pupils. In 1957 the High Light, our school news publication, was founded. The junior year was truly eventful. The junior Supper, for which we managed to sell the highest number of tickets up to the present year, was considered to be an extraordinary success. We sponsored the Junior Prom at the Hershey Country Club for last year's honorable Seniors. They gave us our first yearbook, and now we are trying to publish an edition to surpass their excellent venture. But this year was the year of all years. The class hike took place near the beginning of the school term. Various trails leading to a spot near Stailey's farm were laid by the members of the social committee. When the different groups had arrived and had eaten their lunches they gathered around the Ere to sing songs. I've Been Workin' on the Railroad, The Peanut Song, Let Me Call You Sweetheart, and other selections are still vivid in our minds. October brought the annual Hallowe'en Dance. Pumpkins, cornstalks and streamers of orange and black gayly decorated the new gymnasium, while Ray Weigle's orchestra played. Smilin' Through was presented on March 30 and 31 as our Senior play, the first ever to be given in the new auditorium. The super performance of its players was considered by many to be worthy of professional attention. Its beautiful and touching scenes will be cherished as unforgettable memories to us The scenery and lighting couldn't have been more lovely than they were. The play, together with the work and extensive preparation it required, was the height of perfection. We went to another junior Prom, not as the hosts this year but as guests who enjoyed the hospitality of the juniors. Class Day and the Senior Farewell Party will soon come to pass. Both will be memorable occaf sions. Then commencement will climax our high school years. Members of the Class have participated in so many activities that it is difficult to mention them all in this summary, but we are sure that they are, every one of them, worthy and invaluable to the Seniors of our Class. We hope that they are just as beneficial to the school as they have been to us. In conclusion, the Senior Class of 1959 bequeaths its abilities and enviable record to the coming Seniors. l23l QLLCLUEHANNOCK - 1939 TEN YEARS FRCM CW Ken Bender will have grown gray trying to win a game with his superb basketball team. Fred Dapp will be deeply investigating the Bio' logical mysteries of the human body. Harold Kaltenborn Dietrich will be explaining the reconciliation of Harold Clark Gable Hooker and the famous mannequin, Elnora Heicher. Albert Harclerode, radio comedian, will be advertisf ing Arthur johnson's new chemical invention, A meal in a pill for those who hurry. Marjorie Tate will be secretary to the Branch Manager of General Motors, Bob McMi1len. Marion Wanbaugh and Natalie Siebert will be the best clients of Edmund Deeter's Escort Bureau. Blues Singer Harling will be swinging the old favorites to the music of Charles Snyder's Swing Band. junior Crider will be radio operator aboard the U. S. Coast Guard Cutter Hoover. Charles Speed Demon Kuhn and mechanic Vincent Mark will have won the Indianapolis 5oofMile Race. Mae Kaltrider and Virginia Moore will be competf ing in the contest for the World's Champion Typist. Raymond Cunningham will be toting pills to the children of the Class of '39, john Mapes will have developed a new seedless, skinless, colorless, nonfsquirting grapefruit. Peggy Black will have her painting, The Black of Night , in the Rockefeller Exhibit in New York City. Louise Hudson will be the first woman to be on the Supreme Court Bench. Bill Hemperly, president of Hemperly's Lumber Co., will have received a large order for pulp wood from the New 'York Times, of which jean Zimmerman is society news editor. Virginia Rogers will be a missionary nurse in the Orient where an epidemic of yellow fever has just been quelled by her extensive efforts in the medical Held. Elizabeth Wood will be foreign correspondent for the New 'York Times. Robert Kuhnert, dare'devil newsreel cameraman, will have consented to address the Camp Hill junior Civic Club. Paul Murphy will be the Don Ameche of television. Dick Nailor will still be looking for something to shave from his face. 24 Leon Gonzalez will be leading a fleet of B 17.5 in the U. S. Army Air Corps. Clinton Grove will be leading masculine milkmaid at the Pennsylvania Farm Show. Penro: Romberger will still be going blissfully through life as President of Romberger and Sons, Incorporated. Maxine Wetherall, Catherine Vernon, Trudie Stailey, and Mary Lou Graham will be starring in joan Porter's 1949 version of Little Women. Faye Stewart will be secretary of the Weidler Electrical Engineering School. Robert MacCachran will be ambassador to Germany. Helen Pealer will be living at ease on the proceeds of her book, Basketball as It Was Played in My Day. Betsy Munroe, noted pianist, will be guest soloist at the Harrisburg Forum, after her second successful conf cert tour of Europe. Kathryn Gulden will be figuring income taxes in Washington. Robert Wallet will be bricklayer for the jacob Nailor Construction Corporation. Marjorie Cornelius, famous psychologist, will be trying to analyze the operations of Bob Cook's mind OJ. june Plank, former Harrisburg Hospital night nurse, will be a cheerful little housewife for some lucky man. jean Pierce will be fashion designer for Saks Fifth Avenue Store in New York. Sheila Spaulding will be eating crusts in a garret while waiting for someone to recognize her works of art. Eleanor Groover and Samuel Froehlich will be work' ing desperately to repair Dick Pierce's sprained finger which was injured while adjusting one of his stream' lined Armstrong heaters. Annajane Overheim will still be baking spice cakes for Stan. Marie Heffner will be busy helping Martha Hoffert Hnd information in the library concerning the current debate topic. Charles Sauter will have won the Cleveland air race in his twinfmotored monocoupe which he designed. Betty McFarland will be the second Amelia Earhart of the skyways. Mary Kreitzer will be head nurse at the Pennsylf vania Hospital at Philadelphia, Pa.
