We should recall the childish pranks reminiscent of elementary school, the first silk stockings and long pants in Junior High, and the intense education C?J in Senior High. After the first six years, of which all that clings to the memory is the trip from the crowded high school to the new and roomy Nathan C. Schaeffer Building, the combined pupils of the Lincoln and Nathan C. Schaeffer Buildings sought higher education in the High School. Here we added an excessive share of fun and ability in singing, sports, and studies for the school's betterment Our beginnings in social affairs were seventh and eighth grade class parties and hikes. Freshmen, the precarious title of our next year, was a name that swelled our chests and heads. This year held for the boys a timidity at approaching their sweethearts for dates to the class party and hikes. As Sophomores the upper-classmen invited us to the sparkling dance and entertainment of the All-school Party. Robert Speck launched into his acting career as nScroogen in the Christmas assembly play, 'Mr. Scroogen, by Ashley Miller. Another play, uChristmas Destinyu, by Dorothy Allan, took honors at the assembly. A class party and hikes held our attention the re- mainder of the year. Then we started a momentous Junior year. We staged a most successful Junior Supper to provide for the Junior-Senior Prom, an excellent dinner and dance held at the Hershey Park Country Club for our farewell to the Seniors. We selected class rings, pennants, class colors--moroon and gray, and class flower--yellow rose. This year was marked with many new projects. A student council was organized, a dance orchestra, composed mostly of members of our class, was formed, and a school paper--the High Light--was started with many of our class on the staff. Cur first move as exalted Seniors was to hold a glittering Ha11owe'en I Dance with the old gym unrecognizable under awe provoking decorations. Bril- liant entertainment was later provided by a hike to Oyster's Bridge. Bob Hunt and Karma Dean were unsurpassable in the leads of the Senior Play, NCaptain Applejackn, by Walter Hackett. The hospitality of the Juniors at the Prom was enjoyed. we carry off top honors of the school with this year book, the first of its kind in the school. After much difficulty in making and financing, for which we have had a rum age sale and bake sale, this book is now in your hands. A band of excellent male singers was the pride of the class. This class of fifty-four members, remaining from the seventy-seven in the first grade, at commencement closes its books and leaves a remarkable history for other classes to emulate. Signed The Class of NSBU CLASS PROPMLCY It is 1940 and the great C.H.H.S. Broadcasting station has decided to have a home-coming week for the members of the class of '38. Don Storey, international correspondent and scribe this epoch making event boards a news commentator, who is to de- train and starts for New York. Accompanying him is the crack newsreel cameraman, Joe Hayes. The con- ductor of the train, Red Hemminger, informs them that on the train is Jean Handwerk, famous Hollywood star with her publicity agent, Bob Hunt The train, engineered by Buzz Strock, goes at a great speed but sudden- ly crashes into a car. When the wreck is untangled, the state police- men, Bob Bigler and Karl Westfall, discover that the car contained a group of their classmates also on their way to New York. The car was driven by that internationally known polo player, Max Hempt, and his friend, Miss Martha Dapp, a well-known debutante. With them were the coach of the University of Pennsylvania and his friend, Miss Margaret Hertzler, football team, Paul Beattie, an eminent business woman. Al- though the automobile was wrecked, no serious injuries were suffered and the group continues its journey. Arriving at the New York Central station they find Dick Deissler at the information desk and learn he is Walter Winchell, Betty Wolfe. Nicholas them to the Ritz Carlton where they are sophisticated manager, Richard Batley. At the hotel Kathryn Grove as desk dining room head-waiter Bob Fickenscher the husband of that feminine Besch, the taxi driver, takes welcomed by the suave and clerk checks them in. In the greets them, and they learn that Pauline Coble has the hotel beauty parlor. Bernadine Colestock, the charming hostess, can chat with them only a few minutes since she has other important guests to greet. Among these are Jane Wueschinski, the most temperamental actress on the stage, and Jack Martin, New York's most brilliant lawyer. At the studio, they are shown into the C.H.H.S. station, Walter Shambach, the office of the president of by his private secretary, Mildred Mapes. Here they are introduced to the sponsor of their program Dick Sides, president of the Ritzy Dress Co.3 with him is his leading designer, Karma Dean, and his most beautiful models, Isabelle Lefever and Lois Sauter. The master of ceremonies is that smooth-voiced announcer, Don Kreiser, who presents the lovely swing queen, Bette Martin, accompanied by the C.H.H.S. orchestra some of whose members are Tony Besch, John Down, Allen Nonemaker, Jim Benson, and Ray Weigle. There follow inter- views with the newly selected Supreme Court Justice, Jack Wise, and the Mayor of New York, Robert Speck. In an operatic duet Janetmae Schaeffer and Ross Garman are accompanied by Warren Sellers. The program is in- terrupted by the American Ambassador to the Court of St. James, Carl Stitzel, with his secretary, Helen Charles. A tap dance by Jean Farber, Mary Morris, Elizabeth Aucker, and Miriam Brennon follows and a talk on education by Professor Betty M. Martin concludes the program. On the way out of the studio we see first aid being administered by nurse Helen Bowman to T. J. Crowley, the silliest comedian in radio. we are put into our cab by doorman, Frank Buchle. Our driver this time is that big he-man, Bob Wolfe who is working his way through. At the hotel we buy a paper and see on the front page a cartoon by Bob Oberdorf about Don Spaulding's latest scientific discovery. We finally go to our rooms tired but happy after seeing once more all our dear old classmates.
