As you can see, the subject of this book is not so much the CAMP herself as it is the men who sailed her, who made her live upon her wide and rolling home. It is the Amer4 ican blue-jacket, the enlisted man, petty officer, chief and seaman, to whom the Navy looks with pride as the power of the fleet. He bears the brunt of the long, cold watches, of rugged days and sleepless nights, Since 1776, the American sailor has distinguished himself upon the world's oceans by his tenacity, good will and un- failing devotion to duty. In that sense above all, the CAMP was truly the best ship with the best creW. J
